Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell. -- Edward Abbey
Very nice photos. Is this the same site I've heard so much reference over Cornell students committing suicide throughout the years?
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.
Dan- do you have a "Ithaca is Gorges" bumper sticker yet?![]()
That is really cool. The second picture makes me think of middle earth.
Dan, I need the directions to Enfield Glen from easy to find central spot in Ithaca. I think I see a road trip in my future.
It's in Robert Treman State Park,. It's a state park, so you'll either need an Empire Pass or pay at the gate.

What is the deal with the walkways? Are these one of the good Robert Moses legacies?
His life was a lot like a Shaksphere villian. The good a man does gets interred with the bones and what you remember is the bad.
We hope for better things; it will arise from the ashes - Fr Gabriel Richard 1805
The CCC did a lot of work in NYS parks during the Great Depression. They built cabins and trails in Allegany State Park, and they did a lot of the stonework along the gorge at Letchworth, too. I assume that the trails and bridges at Watkins and Enfield Glens were probably done then, too.
Thanks. If it's in a SP, I'll find it. I didn't get an Empire Pass this year because my hiking buddy, Rusty the German Shorthair Pointer, just isn't up to long treks any more -- or even medium ones. Once around the block or the softball field at the park is about all he can do at one time. We haven't even done our favorite trail at Long Point SP since about April, and even that was only about half way out to the Point and back.
Wow... I didn't look at those pictures previously. I love State Parks. NY has some pretty sweet ones too.
