As part of our Neighborhood Planning program we are working with neighborhoods to prepare a vision for their community. The Neighborhood Planning Teams involved are diverse groups of up to 20 people, composed of residents, business people, non-resident property owners and local institutions.
Does anyone know of any good exercises, websites, resources, etc. that may give us some ideas about working with neighborhoods to produce a community vision?
There is no one really good published source, at least I have not found it. Oregon APA Chapter published a reasonably good manual that I believe is available from the Planners Book Service. There was an interesting article about Atlanta's process in the Journal of the APA sometime during the last couple of years. Also read the JAPA articles by Judith Innes. Best thing is to talk to people who have the experience.
This is probably to late to be much use to Steve. But, the Study Circles Resource Center publishes a number of visioning guides. We used one of them, Smart Talk for Growing Communities, as a guide for our county visioning process.

Check out a small town in Tennessee called "Maryville." Their process is amazing and ambitious for that sized place.
