    Inspiring Words

Life is pain, and I am so glad that there are people in this world willing to share their wisdom and by doing so lightening the burdens on others' souls. I wish to share some of the sage words I've heard that I believe many of you can draw Inspiration and Sustenance from. Know that you are not alone in this world and others are there to help you in your times of need or despair......

"When the going gets tough......the tough get going"

"When life gives you lemons....make lemonade"

"Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today"

Feel free to contribute any words of inspiration and wisdom you may have heard and aid your fellow passengers on planet Earth along this journey called 'life'.

My personal favorite is Yogi Berra's "It ain't over til it's over."

Incredibly deep and inspiring, yet in such a blasé manner.

Sooner or later, everybody gets shot.
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.

My five year old expressed great displeasure the other night upon being told it was time for bed. I struggled to find the right words to convey understanding accessable to the mind of a child. Suddenly, in my head I heard the immortal words of Eddie Murphy:

"This is my house and if you don't like it you can just get the F*** out!"

I've made this threat before, although minus the F-bomb.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

For inspiration I turn to the sage of old-time TV, who was oft-quoted by his sons - Pappy Maverick,

    Who said:

    "A faint-heart never filled a flush."

"If you can resist women and temptation, you're no son of mine."

"It's the sly coyote that gets the rabbit to jump into his mouth."

And of course the explantion of why Pappy was marrying a 18-year-old girl: "Son, if you're ever served a rare steak and find it was meant for someone else - don't bother with the ethical details. Just eat as much as you can before the mistake is discovered."

Pappy taught me that while It might be morally gratifying to be an upright citizen, it is immorally satisfying to be a rascal.

    No good deed goes unpunished

Its a daily reminder to me not to be too helpful or go out of my way to help someone with a project, issue, etc, especially the public. It always comes back to bite you later. To quote HomerJ, I was built for the public sector!

So did you get a lot of crap for having this baseball back when you lived in Boston, knowing how you and everyone up there are crazy for their beloved Sox?

My favorite phrase in the planning office:

We're making enemies faster than we can kill them. We need to kill FASTER!!!

In all seriousness, I've actually found some consulation in this quote, which is taped to the top of my computer monitor:

The perfect is the enemy of the good. - Ted Kennedy

and of course anything by Yoda.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Here are some nuggets...(insert dung heap emoticon here)

The best play ever designed will fail if it is not property executed by everyone on the team.

Some do what it takes to change things. Others just complain about things.

I have that on the corkboard above my desk

I was seriously tempted to put "Abandon All Hope, All Ye Who Enter" above the door at a place I used to work.
When did I go from Luke Skywalker to Obi-Wan Kenobi?
