    What's your preferred Monopoly token?

Personally, I always go for the car, if it's not available, the Scottie. If that's gone, I reluctantly take the boot, mainly because it's easy to grab.

Strange, I could never explain why, but I liked the hat.

    In order of preference:
    top hat
    car
    scottie
    battleship
    cannon
    guy on horseback
    boot
    thimble
    wheelbarrow
    iron

I never quite understood the thematic implications of the tokens. I mean it's a game about money so I always figured top hats are emblematic of wealth and therefore a desireable token, but many of the other tokens lack relevence to the Monopoly universe. Sure, one could argue the wheelbarrow is for carting off all your cash, and since you're travelling around the board a vehicle or possibly horse or dog suggest movement, but thimbles? irons? cannons? what do they have to do with the Monopolyverse?

As for the various color groups what did you envision were the housing stock for each?
    example:
(purple) Mediterranean and Baltic - 1960's public housing tenements interspersed with urban prarie and crack houses
(maroon) St Charles, States, Virginia - neighborhoods filled with lots of 1920-ish working class 700 - 900 sq ft houses. Many without garages.

I can't be the only planner who has visualized the neighborhoods in Monopoly, can I?

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

When I was a kid, I was quiet and shy and never jumped in to grab the cool pieces. So I typically got stuck with the thimble -- whether playing at school or at home. Now, when I play with my wife and son, I find myself instinctively choosing the thimble even though I could pick something better since there are only three of us playing. So, sadly, thimble gets my vote.

NO! I won't have it! Dammit man, you get the board out, tell them you're being the Car and watch them cry! Let their tears make you stronger! Ok, I'm always the thimble too. I have a bunch of kids and they're all cooler than me...

I prefer the boot. It symbolized the "don't tread on me" persona and while simultaneously serving as a weapon in case you get some squatters.

Thanks. I was going to say that it was for protection against pricks that play Monopoly but decided to take the high road.

This Bear has always picked the top hat. And, I haven't played the game in decades. As young'n's, my brother and I would try to out-cheat each other.

The car was always my favorite followed closely by the wheelbarrow. Don't really know why, but I know my brother would always chose the car to try a piss me off (which he did regularly).

I usually go top hat because it stands tall and is easy to get hold of.

I usually go the thimble, but i am not fussed.

We used to have monoply games that lasted days and days in my family. It gets very competitive!
