My neighborhood is fighting an application to change our land use plan. It is a small residential area with almost all of the houses built before 1930. Being a near-downtown neighborhood, it has seen it's share of problems, including the conversion of single-family houses into medium density multifamily. We have several high-density apartments, in addition to the units that were built as medium density and past conversions. In the last fifteen years we have managed to prevent further loss of single-family units, but that is now in jeopardy.
This case has been continued twice and one of the planning board members is pushing for approval of the application using the short-sighted "One more won't hurt anything" argument. I would appreciate being directed to reference materials that address the consequences of such an approach. I do not want to confront the board member, but having some quotable sources would be great to have, just in case.
