    Tropical Planning - Introduction

As a new member of Cyburbia from the tropical city of Cairns, Australia, I am interested to know if there are any particular niches of tropical expertise within the Cyburbia community. I am currently working with James Cook University to help develop a Tropical Urban Design course as part of our Tropical Urban and Regional Planning degree, and within this, we are working on developing co-operative linkages with industry and institutions operating as tropical built environment specialists. I have also started a Planning in the Tropics Blog, just to get going.

Any feedback or suggestions on this topic are welcome.

Welcome Allison, from the Great State of Ohio! We have many Aussies on board and look forward to some of your views. I have nothing to add since Ohio isn't exactly tropical, but I am sure there are some that can add to the discussion. If you want to get more feedback post something in a specific forum - like student forum or make no small plans.

Welcome from a cooler part of Ohio than Hink!

    But not by much.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

    Hello, from Dallas, TX!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011
