    What is your Cyburbian Score?

So there are really two ways to tell how embedded a member of our Cyburbian community is:

    - length of membership
    - Post Count

But what if there was some formula that would allow us to get a score for each member and then we could rank them from that score? I know that I like seeing how many ways we can rank people, so I came up with a couple options. I would love to say that quality is more important than quantity, but how can we quantify quality?

    Historically Significant Cyburbian:

Some of the concepts for this would be:
    a. was immediately noticed at the time as having significance
    b. it had a long-lasting impact and may have even changed the direction of future events
    c. it had a widespread impact
    d. it resulted in dramatic changes in our lives
    e. it has been memorialized in popular culture and/or professional history
    f. it helps us to understand the history of Cyburbia

Since these can't be traced, I suggest we go with a simple formula that takes how long you have been around and how many topics you have started -

"Days as a member" times (X) "threads started" divided by (/) "10000"

    For me that would be 2374 x 78 / 10000 = 18.52
    For historically significant people like Dan the numbers would be: 5461 x 1000 / 10000 = 546.1

    Postmaster General:

Although we can all see who is our post count leader, it really comes down to posts per day, threads started, and overall post impact -

"Posts per day" times (X) "threads started" divided by (/) "Your rank in overall posts"

    For me that would be 1.34 x 78 / 50 = 2.09
    For Postmaster Generals like RJ the numbers would be: 3.73 x 643 / 1 = 2398.39

    -------------------

You guys have any other ideas...

I don't like including # of Threads started. There are far too many stupid threads out there, especially threads in the FAC that should've been put in RTTDNDTOT.

But I like where you're going with this, as long as you do all the work.

    Get back to work!

Also, I started a similar thread discussion in 2005

Also, if you're a mod, you're above it all like the gods atop Olympus, so, Hink, continue your meaningless comparisons of relative pleb "success".
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

    Ditto!

Too bad you can't quantify how many of us spend more time lurking and processing the information quietly

I do not plan on scoring with any cyburbians.

I don't think you have to worry about that.

I think Hink_Planner is just trying to increase his own score.

I recommend a designation such as "Quality Assurance Officer" that would be a score based on something like:

(Replies to threads started - (Replies in threads started and designated Neverending + # of threads started) ÷ (threads started + # of threads designated Neverending - (Threads designated "Split from" + Threads started by other users AIB you))

This would basically give you the average number of replies to threads you started, not including your initial post. This would also give extra weight to posts of yours that were deemed worthy enough by somebody else to be split from another thread and posts of yours that inspired somebody else enough to start a thread based on your original idea. Subtracting the data regarding the Neverending threads should help to control for things like being the one to start the annual RTDNTOTO thread which gets thousands of replies that have little or nothing to do with the original post.

The higher the score, the higher the perceived quality of the threads you began is.

    Here are my statistics:
    • 41 threads begun by WSU MUP Student
    • 634 total replies to those threads
    • 0 Neverending threads started
    • 1 thread started "AIB: WSU MUP Student"
    • 1 thread started with a post from WSU MUP Student Split from Thread X

Let's plug them into the Quality Assurance formula:

    [634 - (0 + 41)] ÷ [41 + 0 -(1+1)]

Based on that, I have QA score of 15.21

    I'll give it a shot...

    Historically Significant Cyburbian:

    5575 days as a member x 633 threads started /10000 = 352.9

    Postmaster General:

    1.28 posts per day x 633 threads started / 12 rank in total posts = 67.52

(The number of threads started impacted by all of the combining of posts made in various FF draft threads )

I can't figure out how many threads I've officially started. Apparently the thing maxes out at a 1000. I would guess in the neighborhood of maybe 1200?

EDIT: What are these calculations trying to demonstrate? Another example of how to lie with statistics?

EDIT 2: Review the Ban Hammer list.

EDIT 3: Factor in the number of other Cyburbians you've met in real life and how many phone numbers of other Cyburbians you have? Just a suggestion.

EDIT 4: Number of laefests attended?

If we trade in the points, what do we get? A trip to downtown Burbank?

All these numbers make my head hurt. All I can say is I've been here 5.5 years and it's been fun and I'm thankful we all have this place on the interwebs.

My score is 42. I don't know how I arrived at that number, but it is THE answer.

It's set to 1000 so the search engine doesn't explode. I just upped the limit to 5000; I'll leave it there for a little while.
