Example of new industry on old industrial land

Does anyone know of any examples for big cities where historically industrial land has been re-used for new industries?

    Thanks!!

I am not sure of your criteria for new industry or big city but here are some examples:

Boston: old navy yard now used for fish processing
Sunnyvale California: Old aerospace plant converted to semiconductor manufacturing, software, and solar panel manufacturing
Los Angeles: diverse manufacturing converted to clothing manufacturing

Around me, old industrial land is usually so contaminated it doesn't get used for much, unfortunately for the City.

Techtown by Wayne State used to be a design studio for Chevrolet. Prior to that it was something else for GM. Wayne also has other buildings that were repurposed that were Cadillac manufacturing buildings that are now used for other purposes. Also in this area is an old burroughs adding maching building that was renovated to be Burroughs HQ, then Unisys HQ, now it operates as part of Henry Ford Hospital.

Nearby was the old Dodge Main plant that was torn down and expanded to become Cadillac's flagship factory and is now known as Hamtramck Assembly. Plymouth factory on Jefferson was torn down and is now making Jeeps, Dodge Durangos and just announced a Mazerati thanks to our swell new partner Fiat. Boo Mercdes Benz yay Fiat!

There are lots of examples of that around here, but we have lots of plants that still need repurposing too.

The Menomonie River Valley in Milwaukee is a large-scale example of this. You can get a great deal of information by googling it.

    The EPA Brownfields site http://epa.gov/brownfields/
has quite a few examples of site reuse. PM me and I can send you some projects of industrial to industrial conversion of sites.
