Go Padres!
(By that, I mean, don't be last this year! :P)
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. (Douglas Adams)
Well, I am glad for Fielder, he hit his jackpot and will have several years of DHing ahead of him after his in the fielding years are over (likely sooner than later due to his weight). Also, I am most happythat he is not in the National League! OTOH, we'll have to see what the effects of that signing are on the Tigers for the long term (will it preclude other potentially wise future signings of good journeyman players?).

The Tigers scare me now. The already have the best pitcher in the game, and now they got a killer combo with Cabrera- Fielder.
Is this the greatest Tiger duo since Cobb/Crawford?
We may need BUN to weigh in on that.

I didn't realize how much they're paying Fielder though.. no way is he worth what he's getting as the one-dimensional player that he is. Plus, what are they going to do when Victor Martinez comes back next year? Vmart/Cabrera/Fielder- only one of those guys can DH
I was liking what the Red Sox were doing this offseason until they traded Marco Scutaro. Now I don't know what to think. SS is too critical of a position to leave as a question mark with unproven players IMO.
Hey, it's not my money, though one could argue that huge contracts lead to higher costs to take a family to a major league baseball game. That said, I would be an idiot to not like the Prince Fielder deal. The Tigers were already a solid threat to win their division. Now we are a threat to win the World Series. Great line-up, good pitching staff, power. Missing ingredient is speed, though Jim Leyland (from Toledo's suburb of Perrysburg) is not a running manager.
My take on "the why" of the Fielder deal: Texas was going to take Prince and those dudes are a threat to the Motown Boys going to the big dance.
Hot stove season is here! Go Tigers!

A nuisance may be merely a right thing in the wrong place — like a pig in the parlor instead of the barnyard.
The Braves had their first injury of the season - already.
Tommy Hansen hit his head on the steering wheel of his car when it blew a tire - thank goodness it wasn't his arm.

Aw, man, first thing I thought when that story broke was "here we go again."
Plus, Chipper showed up looking like an offensive lineman instead of a third baseman...

That pic does kind of scream "mid-April pulled hamstring when waddling from first to second on a line drive to the gap" - I'm hoping it's just a really bad camera angle. Realistically, I'm guessing the Braves will be happy if they can rest him some and get 400 or so quality plate appearances.

Ryan Braun is the luckiest guy in the world.. still guilty as hell though.
Your quote reminds me of this. Not a Yankee fan but still a great movie and a great ball player.

I love spring training but the ticket prices are getting silly. If I want to go see the Giants and sit in the infield the ticket price is $41...to watch major leaguers try not to get hurt, a pitcher work the same pitch over and over and a bunch of guys that will be selling insurance in 4 years after the 5th inning.
