    Aaaarrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!

Is it just with me, or is everybody you ever worked with or for just completely full of it when it comes to what they say they'll do for you? When you graduate from high school they should just tell you to never count on anybody, ever, in your working life. That would have been good commencement speech advice.

    OK, I'm done now.

Like my Pappy told me: "Son, always trust your fellow man --- to be exactly what he is."

And "trust" is just a name on a bank.

Captain does not respond to catnip. I think he was a dog in a former lifetime.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?

Our office lost AC for a bit last week. We still have a couple thousand out of power in my community. At least our local power company is giving out ice chips....

So when are we going to require power companies to bury their lines instead of "fix" them every time a wind storm comes through.......

I heard on the news last night that there were more people without power due to the weekend storms than there were due to Hurricane Katrina.

Just found out that City Hall's emergency generator is kaput and storms are supposed to be coming through in the next 24 hrs. Did I mention that City Hall contains our jail?

    Dear Diet Pepsi,

When I ranted yesterday that you can't trust anyone....I didn't mean you. You've always been there for me.

I never assume anyone is there for me so then I am always surprised when they are!

Isn't that true of virtually anything?

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Had to go down to the MVD today and get a duplicate title for my car. Although I brought work to do during my 90 minute wait I spent most of my time people watching. It was a cross between the very old, the very young (with parents in tow) and an assortment of 19 different types of crazy.

I think you should expect to get a visit from 50 cent. He doesn't like people to talk bad about such a great product....

In the car this afternoon I caught part of a radio interview with James Howard Kunstler. He has a new book out.

There are clusters of orange-colored day lilies all along the rural roadsides. Are day lilies considered a native plant? or were they introduced to the northeastern U.S.? I have no idea. I just read about a yellow iris that's considered an invasive plant in the Adirondacks. Where are my plant experts when I need them?

    July 4th Songs

I was thinking about all of the different songs, released over many years, with a patriotic theme. Of course, Yankee Doodle Dandy comes to mind. As does The Star Spangled Banner, America The Beautiful, Over There, and God Bless America. God Bless America has been done by many artists. To me, this is one of the best versions because it provided a beautiful ending scene for my favorite movie, The Deer Hunter. Setting the scene, the group at the table had just attended the funeral for Nicky (played in Oscar-winning fashion by Christopher Walken). This scene still moves me.
