thanks to some errands last night, we ended up eating at old country buffet, and i had the following items for dinner:
    navy bean soup
salad bar offerings (my standard selection topped w/ french dressing and bacon bits)
    green seedless grapes
    steak (medium)
mashed potatoes (almost certainly out of a box)
    green beans
    corn
    slice of cheese pizza
    beverage: hawaiian punch
dessert: consisted of chocolate/vanilla twist soft serve ice cream

in short, it was a truly authentic olde world dining experience, which may in part explain the powerfully sophisticated cosmopolitan/european aura i’m exuding today.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. I'd give the navy bean soup credit for that "aura".

After years of working a mixed-shift schedule of days, nights and weekends, my best friend recently took a new job where it's all days, no weekends. We'll be able to get together much more often. I'm happy for him....and me.

This cyburbian gets to do some work travel in FY13.
If you are in these areas let me know and maybe we can meet up for some dinner.

Salt Lake City and northern, UT
    Shreveport, LA
    Tampa, FL

other areas TBD, but give me a message and we'll start the conversation. Travel won't be until after the new year.

If you are going to Shreveport, take a trip across the Red River to wild and woolly Bossier City. There are bars in that town where they frisk you for weapons at the door and if you don't have one, they give you a loaner so you will at least have a fighting chance.

There's a bar/pool hall that my brother-in-law took me to in rural north eastern North Carolina that had sign on the door that limited the size of the knife blades to five inches. I guess it was to level out the playing field. I didn't think much of it till I saw sign near the pool tables instructing patrons to call 911 in case of fighting. The sign included the address of the place, my guess was that the dispatchers knew the location well. I did win $30 playing pool and I tried hard to break even but it was difficult as I was mostly sober, but I bought my opponents drinks to ensure I didn't need anyone to call 911 on my account. I did see a minor scuffle that misunderstanding that involved someone's old lady; but the regulars defused the situation pretty quickly. My BIL said that he has never seen a fight that lasted more than 20 minutes because that's how long it takes the police to respond there.

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on, could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

Hmm...usually after playing hockey it's my left knee that bothers me. Today, it's the other knee.

FML. MRI results are in. ACL tear, PCL is lax, meniscus is degenerative, cartilage is thin, and there are "metallic artifacts" in the knee.

I am very lucky and blessed but this sucks b.a.l.l.s.

    Friday! Friday! Friday!

Actually I won't be doing any partying this weekend, just happy that this long week is nearing its end.

My goal for the weekend is to find a small microwave that isn't a piece o'crap.

Been there. Tore my ACL and shredded my meniscus in 1997. What might have been arthroscopic surgery turned out to be an open surgery because it was so severe. Still doing fine 15 years later although I avoid anything that requires hard lateral motion or undue pressure on my knee.

Oh no, I'm sorry, that is not good news.

    What are metallic artifacts?

I had ACL surgery in 2001 so I've been through this before, which is part of what sucks so much.

    terraplnr, I have no idea!

Sorry to hear that Dandy. I partially tore my ACL and that knee is loose in the joint. I had to stop playing volleyball and basketball because the knee would slip out. Instead of retiring from soccer, can you coach?
