You ever wonder at the number of groups, institutions, and organizations that have adopted latin mottos? Latin mottos were probably a hotter item a century ago than today, but many organizations still retain them - what is (or was) up with that? Adopting a latin motto nowadays seems a tad pretentious - do you suppose in adopting a latin motto the group was trying to achieve an air of sophistication? (after all, since the fall of Rome latin has been seen as the language of educated people)

As the man showed us his property, he boasted that he has the best drinking water around, and that his well is ony 50' deep. He then boasted that his septic tank was nearby, and has never been pumped.

I got a call from the blood bank this afternoon. They want a pint of my A+ platelets. I explained that I donated whole blood last week. The woman on the phone said they'll give me back all the useless stuff. They just wanted the platelets. I have to wait another week. Anybody just donate platelets? According to their records, this would be a first for me.
