Today I moved into a bigger plot in the office cube farm - a cubicle with additional seating and a table for guests. But more importantly, it's a cube with actual sunlight!

In the process though, I've discovered that I have a lot of crap and paperwork in my old cube that I simply do not need and have little to no desire of actually moving that additional 5 years worth of detritus. I think I am only going to move over the bare minimum right now and then over the course of the next week or so if there is something I need from the old cube I will go get it. At the end of that time, items that haven't been used can probably be tossed.

One of my current planning cases is a 72 unit affordable senior citizen housing development. Going through old staff reports through the years, I found quite a few condo and apartment complexes, assisted living projects, and the like with 72 units. Why does 72 units seem like some kind of "magic number" for developers?

Is there some sort of state law?

Around here I noticed with nursing homes, the magic number is 44. The total number of beds in 60% of our nursing homes are multiples of 44. I honestly have no idea why but it could just be a coincidence since we only have fifteen nursing homes.

Saw Garrison's solo stand-up act last month in Saginaw. It's great. Similarly, Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe show.

At a bicycle rally in the 80s, one evening's entertainment included a Mark Twain presenter (not Hal Holbrook). He did "Taming the Bicycle" for us.

Just got back from Mardi Gras and I could go out and play more music right this minute.

Our local community college is proudly displaying on their electronic signboard that they are featuring a presentation of "The Vagina Monologues". The sign is immediately next to their soccer fields that are used by youth leagues in the evening and on weekends. I'm so glad that I don't have any young children to explain that to.

Old saying: "you can't have your cake and eat it too"
I just realized that people of my grandparents generation (in their 20's during the Great Depression) were definitely more interested in "having" their cake than eating it. Think about it when you look at some of the funny things they did:
- had two sets of towels/linens - ones for every day use and ones ostensibly for guests (that never really got used)
- covered couches and chairs with clear plastic
- put plastic runners over the carpet in the living room to walk on
- would own a 'fully loaded' Buick, but seldom if ever use features like the air conditioning or power windows so as not to 'wear it out'.

Okay, serious question, is it illegal to show up to court inebriated? Obviously it's total fail, but against the law for any reason other than drunk in public?

Depends on what you're on probation for and what the probation rules are. I have a friend who is a parole officer. She told me about a guy who was on probation for multiple DUI's and had had his DL revoked. He not only showed up for his parole office meeting highly intoxicated but when he was asked how he got there, told her that he drove and that his car was parked outside the courthouse. He was promptly cuffed and taken away.

We're having chef's salads tonight for dinner. Mine will include Dungeness crab from the left coast. I also picked up a nice chardonnay. Both at Publix. Yummy.

I love dungeness crab. That's one of the coolest things (among many others) about living right on the left coast, so many restaurants have various dungeness crab dishes this time of year. delish!
