RJ woke me up this morning to tell me the newly elected mayor of a nearby town in our county had died yesterday. He was 80. A fellow council-person said he had complained this past Tuesday that he felt like he had an elephant on his chest. He was in office 5 weeks, had campaigned as a Tea-Partier, and was in office a week or so and demanded the little city buy him a truck to drive around (so much for that Tea-Party stuff...). He had money. RJ said there is some "irony" there but he couldn't figure it out. Neither could I.
Tonight on the local news his family said he didn't have a heart attack, as reported, but died of "black mold" in City Hall, or possibly toxins from inspecting mosquito-infested drainage ditches (it's not mosquito season here, BTW) where insecticides had been sprayed. They are vowing to sue.
Really? Who invites reporters in the day after your husband/dad dies? Who dies of black mold after a part-time 5-week job?
This reminds me of a news item that I heard sometime back in the 1980s when a cop in Duluth, MN pulled over an apparently very lost big-rig truck. The driver explained to the cop that he was looking for an address on (xxxx) street. Cop replied that there's no street with that name in Duluth. The truck driver then went back into his rig to recheck things and the cop continued on his way.
About a half hour or so later, the cop went back down that street and saw that that big-rig truck was still parked there. Cop goes back to the rig's cab to find a very distressed, indeed, driver, who, sheepishly, handed to the cop the manifest for his load - for a destination in Duluth,

I tried watching, but turned it off. I am very familiar with the area, somewhat familiar with the fued, and am an avid student of such local histories. Even know some Hatfields. I could not follow the characters nor the plot. With a book, you can go back to recall a character. With video you need a guide book, narrative, or captions.
