The Valentine's Day Dilemma

Last night the little woman asked "Where are you taking me for Valentine's Day?" So much for my idea of staying home and just giving her a card. I suggested Golden Corral, thinking it would be a romantic choice on account of that chocolate fountain thing-y what they got. This did not appeal to her. I then suggested the Old Country Buffet, since they also got themselves a big spread. This was not a pleasing suggestion either. She grew up in California and I know she likes Breakfast Jacks, but we ain't got any of them Jacks in the Box 'round these parts. This leaves me without any idear what for to do. Any great suggestions from the Throbbin Brain?

Find the nicest place in town and take her there. Order stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Works every time.

I think you would be safer going to a non-chain restaurant for Valentines Day. Think romantic that doesn't cater to the masses.

Cardinal, ya came to the right place asking me all about this. I'm an expert, see, in the art of Romance on a budget. Admit it your first impulse was to take her to McDonalds and the reason you said 'no' was because there's that whole 'cheapskate' allegation it opens ya up to. So the key here is to take her some place that's got more CLASS than MickeyD's but still don't cost you a fortune. I personally recommend Wendy's *. Everyone knows their burgers cost more than McDonalds, but you use your secret weapon after she orders and lay down one a them buy one get one free coupons. See, that way you can both sit there enjoying a classy bacon double cheeseburger and it only cost you as much as one person!

Another thing you can do is save up all those paper VFW 'buddy poppies' you get every year at Memorial Day (or if you're really in a clutch ya can always swing by a cemetary on yer way home from work) and after a few years you got enough for a whole bouquet and give her that! If she tries to give ya any grief about it, just say somethin' like "real flowers last only a few days, whereas my love for you - like these flowers here - lasts a lifetime!" Chicks will fall fer it every time!

* some dames get funny about Wendy's too and insist on ya takin' 'em to one of them "sit down" restaurants where you can't get your food from either a buffet or the order counter. In these cases I recommend taking her to Culvers. You might have to do a little more searching to find their BOGO coupons but it'll be worth it when she gets the whole havin' them bring your food out to you experience.

Nah, getting flowers delivered to work and dinner at a nice restaurant with a bottle of wine. I'm taking the safe route. Trying to do something new and spontaneous presents too great a risk of failure for the potential rewards.

I've never ate at any of the casino restaurants. Can you smoke in them too? Or is it just allowed in the gaming areas?

We are using a Groupon I bought for a restaurant we like (cheap but it’s ok!), and aren’t going out on the actual V day (don’t want to fight crowds), and we’ll probably have our son with us (babysitters are expensive)… I’m not helping out too much here, am I.
