Least favorite month(s)

February is my least favorite month of the year; it's sole consolation being it only has 28 days. Why does February suck, you ask? The novelty of winter and snow is typically long over with and I am quite ready for spring to begin. Spring, however, is usually a ways off yet and there isn't that sense of tangible hope that March posesses promising that spring will, you know, actually get here.

What is your least favorite month?...better yet, pick your bottom three and tell us what it is about those particular months you don't like. It doesn't have to be weather-related, maybe you detest the crass commercialism that is December or find that the dread of April 15th casts a pall over the entire month.

March and April are my least favorite months. There are no holidays that I get off of work for and the weather is just too unpredictable. It March it can be 60º and sunny one day and then 20º with 6" of snow the next. April may be a bit more consistently warmer but even when the temperature is nice, the outdoor world just looks so ugly with the trees almost entirely bare still and mud everywhere. Not to mention all the debris and detritus left floating around the yards and parks that had been covered by the elements all winter long. Even when it's sunny, it still feels dreary.

The only saving grace for these months is the opening of the MLB season.

I couldn't bring myself to include April in my least favorites, simply because that is the month I typically get out and begin to sow seeds. But you're right, the unpredictability of the weather in April is maddening! It's supposed to be spring.....one expects it to be spring....and yet winter inevitably manages to sneak in an unexpected punch or two before departing.

I voted for February, March, and August. February and March for the numerous reasons already mentioned. I dislike August because it does not have any holidays, seems to last forever, and so many people are on vacation that it's hard to get anything accomplished in the development world.

December, January, and February. I just hate the winter. People are always vacationing making scheduling hectic, something always seems to happen to my car, and I'm generally just eating less healthy food and being more lethargic since I don't want to go out in the cold.

I really hate winter too. But I find that the holidays and the NFL help get me through December and January. Plus I find myself working a lot of 4-day work weeks these months because of Xmas, New Years, MLK Day, etc. It's February when winter really gets to me.

February is probably my least favorite month. The weather isn't great and I don't get any days off. Normally it's just a completely forgettable month for me.

When I lived in Michigan, it was January (snow & cold), February (black snow & ice), and March (cold rain). After 28 years in Texas, it's January (sometimes cold & leafless trees), February (Valentines Day), and August (day after day 100 plus degree temperatures). In general, any month that generates advertising for gifts involving diamonds are on my s**t list.

I too voted Feb March, April. I hate April the least. The only thing to look forward to in March is Parade Day (Sunday Before St. Pat's).

April, because it is the heart of tornado season hereabouts. July and August (even with the 4thof July and my early August b'day) because the freakin' heat and humidity seems brutally never-ending.

But I too hate february for the reasons you mentioned: tired of winter and spring still a distant possibility. It is the month that I question why I left the South. But as Spring rolls around, I remember why I did and how much I hated June through September when living in that mosquito-infested steambath of south Louisiana.

August is the worst month. I can take 106-110 with low humidity but when it is 107 in the midst of monsoon season, the humid, incredible heat is unbearable. The worst part about it? Nights when it doesn't get cooler than 95.

She's even gone so far as to buy me packets of wild flowers to sow. She draws the line, however, at oats.

I would say the last month of each unofficial season is generally the worst, the exception being spring. Usually by the end of the season whatever charms the season initially offered have either vanished or turned into something else. e.g. the dog days of August....November when all the trees are barren...February when the snow is all encrusted with dirt etc.

Until I moved, I would have said January, February and August. The gray days of January and February are tough. August was the token hot/humid month. Since moving, I switched to July, August, and September. Those months are down right brutal with heat and humidity.

January, February, and March are the three main contenders for me. I do not like long winters. I do like a little bit of winter weather (especially the first snow of the season) and I also like the holidays, so December is not a contender. But, after the novelty of the holidays wears off, the winter months are just depressing.

January is probably my least favorite month. It is typically the most brutally cold month. It is the darkest month. December may have the shortest day and actually be the darkest month, but at least there are tons of Christmas lights to keep things bright and merry. January doesn't really have that. It's just cold, dark, and depressing. Lately the Bears have been choking in December and January, so what do I care what happens in the NFL playoff season anymore? Especially when it's been the same ol' teams from the Northeast. American Idol starts, but it doesn't really kick into high gear. Also, I'm usually broke, recovering from the Christmas shopping season. And even if I wasn't, nobody wants to go out and be social in cold January. Everyone just hibernates.

February is a little bit better, because you start to see the days get lighter. TV gets better...at least for me and the shows I like to watch. American Idol gets into high gear, Celebrity Apprentice starts up again. The Super Bowl, Grammies, Oscars. I'm also a political guy, so usually February is a good political month, either because of primaries going on, or the Republicans' Lincoln Day dinner celebrations I used to go to in college (I think the Dems' equivalent is the Jefferson-Jackson dinners). If you're in a relationship, Valentine's Day is another great excuse to get out of the house and go to dinner, or stay in and "get it on", or maybe even both!

March is better too, because there's a better chance of nicer days. And the time changes too, meaning it stays light out much longer in the evening! I hate the mud and barren landscape of March and April, but I really savor those random 60 and 70 degree days when they start to appear. I remember some really nice March and April days in college. Lots of parties and more BBQs. Hot sorority girls sunbathing on Greek Row. Starting to see those hot legs come out again. And even if you don't have mild weather, you can always take a spring break somewhere. March also has St. Patrick's Day...another great drinking holiday. Easter too...although that's usually in April.

So, yeah, considering all that, and considering my love for warm days, nice weather, social activity, things to do, fun holidays, long days, and light....January is my least favorite month.

Likewise. I used to hate winter, but in AZ they are some of the nicest months, except January when it can be a bit cold especially at night. Now July and August are brutal with the heat so those would be my other least favorites now.
