You might know this already but here is a current reminder after the March 2 Tornadoes.

Would be nice if we could add more mobile home regulations around here but there's no way the population would ever go for it, even if a tragedy like that occurred. Mobile home park owners around here have already discovered a loophole to avoid safety inspections and the powers that be have no interest in closing the hole. It's a shame really since its clear that many park owners don't care about the safety of their residents.

We also don't have the staff to even keep track of all the mobile homes in the county. It doesn't help we don't require park owners to fill septic tanks when they close so mobile homes keep reappearing without us knowing about it.

Mobile homes are the bane of our office's existence.

We don't get many tornadoes in western New York State, but they do seem to find mobile homes when they do hit.

I am considering a double-wide mobile home for a retirement home because the cost differential between a small one story stick built home and a double wide is so large. I thought a modular home would be a good compromise, but after some investigation, I think that may not be the case. They seem to be pricier than stick builts, especially for small ones.

Having lived for two years in Nebraska, I don't think I would feel safe living in a house without a basement or some kind of storm shelter. I don't use my current basement for anything but the furnace and hot water tank, but it's there if I need to gather up the dog, cats, flashlight, and radio and head down there.
