    It's not a joke - this started as a code compliance issue, when neighbors turned him in for having back yard animals. Too many back yard animals, including livestock.

    Eventually it was escalated to trials, he was jailed by the judge for various non-compliance issues (his house was burglarized & ransacked while he was in jail), he lost his ability to make money while in jail, so he fell behind on his mortgage, and when the Sheriff's Office came to evict him, he chose a scorched earth policy rather than 'taking it anymore' from the government.

    It's really a sad state of things, if you know the whole story. He had a few victories along the way (he won his court case that allowed him to keep his chickens on the site), but ultimately lost everything.
