Hope all the east coast gets ready and stays safe during and after the storm. No special preparations here inland NC, but definitely keeping an eye on this "Frankenstorm"

Just rescheduled our weekend in NYC and our big public input meeting early next week. Sandy never even asked what MY plans were.
"Frankenstorm". I love it.

“Is it going to be a typical nor’easter or is it going to the a storm like the storm of ‘62,” Mancini said. “It’s too early in the process to really tell.”

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.

I'm seriously worried about this storm. My DH keeps arguing with the weather forecasters, claiming they are blowing things out of proportion.
Now that we live in a rural community, the chances of an extended power outage are relatively high. We do have a generator, it has gas in it, and it will keep our power and our water pump running (we're on well water)... but I still don't know how to hook it up.That's usually his department.
I think we are both up for a doozy this time. I only lost power for a couple of hours with Irene last year, hoping that is the case this year too. The was widespread flooding all around us for up to a week after Irene last time. I think there will be more wind damage this time and flooding really depends on how much the storm(s) sit on top of us and drop. I think the coast is going to get the brunt of it though since it's a full moon which can exacerbate a storm surge. While a bit out of your area my grad school friend has an excellent FB page that deciphers everything in a rational manner: https://www.facebook.com/JerseyShoreHurricaneNews.

Mom closed up her beach house for the winter last weekend. That includes turning off all utilities.
Will have a friend check after they let people back on the island.
I pay attention to the news about for Long Beach Island.
Already a like and have JerseyShoreHurricaneNews on my FB newsfeed.

In the mid-1970s I was visiting my sister in Ventnor when either a Tropical Storm or Cat 1 passed up the New Jersey coast. We did not evacuate and it was a pretty scary mistake: the winds were one thing, but the water was frightening as it came at us from both the ocean and the sound. Fortunately, the storm passed before we had to be rescued. I learned a lesson then and I will never forget it: I'm bugging out any time I'm near a hurricane and the coast. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm a wuss: I'm going to live to laugh another day.![]()

So is Sandy the hurricane that everyone has been warning NY about? Or could a stronger Category storm directly hit NY? It seems that the typical path of an Atlantic Hurricane would prevent a hurricane with Category 4 or 5 winds from hitting NY.
Edit: Sorry, I should have included NJ in this as well. Don't mean to diminish what it did to them.

A nuisance may be merely a right thing in the wrong place — like a pig in the parlor instead of the barnyard.
It's been devastating. I live in the interior part of Essex County but I have many, many friends that live in the Ironbound (Newark), Hoboken, Jersey City, and all up and down the Jersey Shore. It's been absolutely heartbreaking. I am glad that I've been in NJ long enough to have visited quite a few of the places that have been destroyed. It will be many months and even years for some places to recover.

I have peeps in the Asbury Park area, my thoughts go out to you folks. I'm headed to FL next week to take care of my mom, and I fully expect that you can still see the effects of the three hurricanes that went inland in that part of the country in 2003, especially Charley that went right over her house. You'll get though it. Don't give up. The work doesn't end after the debris cleanup.

If you looked at the pictures I posted on my FB page of Mom's LBI (Jersey Shore) house, my family was very lucky.
