Impromptu Stanfest 2012? Royal Oak, MI

I am proposing a possible impromptu late summer Stanfest in Royal Oak, MI (northern Detroit suburbs) on Friday, September 14th. The date corresponds with a local screening of Detropia. There are plenty of places nearby to enjoy libations before or after the screening as well.

There is a screening that same night in Downtown Detroit as well (at the theatre in the RenCen) and we could always have the Stanfest down there if there is an interest to do so. I just initially suggest the Royal Oak location because a) it's closer to my home and b) I'm lazy.

I'm down with glorified ruin porn and libations. It's a rare weekend when both kids are at their respective other parents, so I'm thinking the bf (village manager and lover of Detroit) will be all for it too. I'm good with either Royal Oak or Downtown.

Can't I find one available weekend on my calendar? That is the weekend that I will have family coming into town to assist with the final stages of "Project Paint the Green Monster". (AKA paint the house)

Not much ruin-porn in that area either. Though the riverwalk has greatly expanded.

I will be out of town earlier that week and I'm not yet sure what day I return, but I think I come back on Thursday!!!

The theatre is small and does sell out showtimes on occasion, but I have no idea how much of a turnout there will be for this (I have seen relatively little local interest so far). I think SW MI Planner's suggestion of the 9:50 movie and drinks/food beforehand is a good idea. That way if folks decide that they do not want to go to the show, they can stick around the bar instead.

Friday nights in Royal Oak can be pretty crowded with many annoying college aged kids (my old-man-ness is showing). We could move the festivities to a bar in Ferndale (about 2 miles south) or some other establishment that might not be quite as overrun with youngin's. Just a suggestion...

We can't go Saturday, going to State/ND game in El. But Friday isn't looking good either because my bf's son has a soccer game on Saturday morning. So it would mean driving two hours to Detroit and two hours back on Friday, then another hour to EL on Saturday. So, decide what works best for you all, and I'll see if it can work.

At the very least maybe we can plan an outing at the MAP conference in October.

Hey Old Man maybe we can move it to Ginaopolis, I wonder if Excalliber is still open? Yes these bars were happening for in the 1980's for the old guys and gals who wore Members Only Jackets and zodiac jewelry! Ferndale's crowds can be just as annoying. Maybe we can find a real dump in Hazel Park or Taylor?

I agree! We are always on the go across the state, so always up for something. And TS, seems like it went so fast, enjoy these last few weeks!
