Rejected from UoT![]()
Has anyone heard anything from Dalhousie, McGill or U of Calgary yet?
Has anyone heard from York or Ryerson? I know York's deadline was only Feb 1st but I this waiting game is killing me.
Nope, I haven't heard from any schools yet. I suspect confirmed statuses for Ryerson and UofT will be sometime this week or next, and York and McGill in a week or two (but likely everyone will know where they stand in April).
I was accepted to York. Found out an hour after posting in this forum.
Hi folks,
Applied to UBC only. 3.7 GPA (2011) but very little related work experience. A lot of retail and serving during school.....
What are your thoughts on moving to a new city to study planning? I've lived in Toronto for 7 years but I think I need a change of scenery, which is why I didn't bother applying to York, Ryerson, or U of T (I'm from York's Faculty of Environmental Studies, and if this school was anywhere else or if the subway was ready, I would LOVE to go back!)
Good luck! Congrats on the acceptance letters!!
Has anyone received a rejection from UBC yet? Not having any news makes me very nervous that I won't even make it onto the wait list.
Though I have been accepted at Queens with $5000 and The University of California Irvine, which isn't to bad.
For anyone who might be interested; I have just heard from Calgary and they are still in the process of reviewing all applications. Will be sending out notifications late next week or early the following.
I was recommended for acceptance at Dalhousie three days ago. I am not sure what this means but I hope it's a yes! Has anyone heard from McGill?
Hey McGill apps,
I'm a second year (graduating in April). From what I've heard, McGill University started a new online system of applications this year, and it really has not gone well. I'm assuming and hoping that "early" (to use the term lightly) applications will be sent out soon. Good luck to those who applied.
If you have any questions about the program feel free to ask. I think there are one or two more of us that have accounts on this site, so maybe they'll chime in too.
I was recommended for acceptance at Dalhousie today. Still waiting for Ryerson and Mcgill...
Also, does anybody know if Dalhousie does a waitlist? I have heard that they don't.
I was recommended via email and she told me that I should be receiving a formal letter in the mail within the next two weeks.
I called Ryerson today and was told they had just mailed out their first round of acceptances, but decisions will be ongoing.
I received my acceptance package from Ryerson in the mail last week with a 'Ryerson Graduate Scholarship'. The package was dated March 7th.
I've now heard back from all but McGill - obviously my first choice takes the longest! When I called the SUP office at the beginning of March I was told that the delay is primarily due to the switch to their new online application system and that I would likely hear back 'by April'. Even so, I've been checking my 'Minerva' account to see the application status daily, but it hasn't changed from 'Ready for Review' since just after I submitted it.
McGill is really making this stressful, I would just like to know so that I didn't have to keep forking over deposits at other schools.. I can't decide between Dalhousie, Queen's, and Ryerson as a second choice... not to mention I need to sort out living arrangements for next year as I will be away all summer for work! Decisions, decisions...
Good luck everyone - hopefully we all know where we're going soon.
Hello All,
I just stumbled across this thread. Great to see a forum dedicated to aspiring and practicing planners. Congratulations Element89 on getting into Ryerson. I received a package offering me a spot with a scholarship last week too! I got a rejection from U of T planning the same day so I had mixed feelings considering U of T was my first choice. That said, the more I've spoken to folks in the planning community, they have had a lot of positive things to say about the Ryerson curriculum. One thing that everyone mentions is how the design component is unique and worthwhile for future job prospects. In general, I'm freaking out about how intensive the program looks. Combination of design studio, thesis, internship, regular courses and RA/TA looks seriously overwhelming for someone who's been working a nine to five office job for the past four years, with time to relax over the weekends. I have to confirm by April 1st so I'm getting my documents in order and send it along.
I had also applied to UBC but given that I have a fairly decent network of people in Toronto who I could work for in the future( similar to another member who posted earlier, I've lived in Toronto for 7 years), I'm planning to make the most of this opportunity. I also applied to a Public Policy degree in U of T. Still waiting on a response from them - if I get a positive, then I'll have to seriously reconsider.
Good luck to the rest of you waiting on responses!
This wait is excruciating! Especially since some of you got acceptances to Ryerson already! Perhaps I got wait-listed... For those of you who got into Ryerson, may I ask what your GPA and CV is like?
Still waiting on McGill, UBC, and Ryerson![]()
Apologies everyone as I feel like I am posting a lot of questions about Dalhousie, but it really is where I want to be and I'm starting to loose faith that I'll be accepted!Several people seem to have already heard from them and I haven't heard a peep. For those who have received acceptance, similar to the above question do you mind sharing what your GPA and CV are like? Thanks!
westcoast and angela, keeping fingers crossed for you guys. I have a feeling that Ryerson gives out acceptances in rounds so there's no reason to lose hope although I sympathize with the increasing levels of anxiety. I had a GPA of 3.9 in my last two years and a CGPA of 3.4 from U of T. There is a huge F in my first year too so I'm glad Ryerson decided to overlook that but U of T may have considered that in rejecting me. Other than that, I've had about four and half years of work experience at an environmental non profit, and a research organization dealing with urban/economic development. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you and everybody else waiting on responses.
@WestCoast
Things may have changed since I went to Dal, but this is how I recall admissions being done:
- Applicants with above a 3.7 GPA were automatically admitted
- After that applicants were contacted in waves. I.e. the most preferred students were offered admission and then given a chance to respond.
- If the number of responding students wasn't enough to make up a full class, they'd move onto the next wave of students and give them offers, and so on down the line. Dal's class is very small (~20 students) so if they did offers to a whole bunch of students at once there would be a chance that way too many of them would accept and the class would be oversized.
- Once a full class had accepted, Dal would send out notification to students on a waiting list. Students on the waiting list would be used to fill positions for people who accepted, but then later declined.
So don't lose hope yet. And as someone who was very happy with the Dal program (and who has talked with students from other schools), I'd say you can't go wrong going there.
