I'd echo that assessment. I've gotten into both Columbia and Cornell (and UT Austin and NYU now), and while I'm leaning toward Cornell, I have to face the fact that I'm interested in both economic development AND transportation, and transportation does not seem to be a big focus at Cornell. UT Austin, Columbia, and NYU on the other hand do have focuses on transpo, in addition to being located in major cities with major transportation networks. There are a lot of other reasons I actually do want to go to Cornell, but this is a huge thing I need to consider.
Less so, though also important, is that while I think I could really love living in Ithaca, that means I won't be working in a major city like NYC or Austin. That means I'll be spending two years probably not firming up as many connections in major cities, unless I can swing some good internships. I'm sure Cornell can get me some great connections, but the advantages in that field seem more obvious for the programs located in bigger cities. I'd be interested in hearing a counterargument though.
Just heard back from Columbia as well, and got a $10,000 scholarship. Certainly gave me some relief! Still waiting to hear back from UPenn, Harvard, and UNC.
Thanks Owego and Queenducky! It's great that I have a place like Cyburbia to share the news and interact with peers. Yes, I feel much better. I was very disheartened to hear the bad news from Rutgers which I was seriously considering. NYU is very appealing to me but I'm concerned about the cost. A few weeks ago, I emailed UCLA's admissions advisor to ask when I'd hear any news and I was specifically told that I would hear back 'by March 8.' I'll be glad if this will be all over by the end of the day.

I think it is going to come down to money. UIUC gave me a RA/TA with full funding. I'm currently in conversation with people at UIC and UCLA about funding options as a RA next year.
I have a sense that my decision will be a 11th hour sort of thing, I am guessing that many of these funding things (especially as I am applying to institutes) will be made early in April.
I am blessed to have choices, but it is driving me crazy! I am currently trying to figure out where in the US I am supposed to purchase my plane ticket from Bulgaria to (family is in IL, but boyfriend and all worldly belongings are in CA).
Nevermind, that link was from 2012. It looks like NYU's open house will be held on April 4...a Thursday. My boss will not be happy with me considering I'm taking 3 weeks off in April/May for a trip to Europe.

Visiting New York City would be a nice birthday present for myself though!
Received my official letter of award from UM today, and you too can have a UM education at the affordable price of $110,000 for 2 years! hahaha. I'd rather live in LA and attend UCLA at that cost.
Crossing my fingers I hear from UVA soon.. After that it will likely come down to what is the best program but not technically which is the cheapest.
Well, if those are you interests I would highly recommend the program. Besides being a great program with reputable resources, it is extremely selective. I was going to apply but crossed it off with Berkley, UW and UNC because of the low acceptance rates. I actually have a cousin who recently moved their with her family to teach in the American Indian Studies department. Both her and her husband teach- relocating from UM. They seem to really love the program and escape from the corn fields often! Although, I guess An Arbor and Champaign aren't that different!
But- great program at no costs... Seems pretty damm hard to pass up, even if accepted to UCLA! Plus, it's only 2 years!
Still waiting to hear more from UCLA. Anyone get info on funding yet?
Thanks for the encouragement. UIUC is a great school, and the fact that I'm from Illinois makes it quite attractive. I also am in love with the cost of apartments. I've sort of come to this point where I realized that I can't make any decisions about schools until I have all of the facts.
I've had a positive email exchange with a professor at UCLA about working as his TA, which if that happens, would make this a hard decision.
Waterboy, do you happen to know if Illinois' urban planning program has a strong alumni network?
I also doubt that UCLA sent their funding notices out- LIARS! haha. I will still wait patiently! Also, how did you approach the professor at UCLA about a TA? I have an advisor in mind and would like to approach her in a similar manner. I was looking at Susanna Hecht.
Not too sure about the alumni network at UIUC, but I bet you ask because of the alumni network at UCLA. That seems to be a real strength to the program! See if you can get ahold of an alumni from the Dept. I'd ask my cousins but they just started a year ago and aren't alumni. They probably couldn't offer much about that.
I applied to Hunter 2 years ago and got no financial aid, but was offered a RA position.
Did anyone apply to Hunter? That's the last school I am waiting on (besides financial aid from Rutgers)
I know Hunter is stingy, but do they give out some aid?[/QUOTE]
