    Teh completely legit statistics thread

I am 99.98% certain that Cardinal just made up some statistics on the spot a short while ago.

I am also 89.55% sure that ofos will post some smart ass remark on this thread within the next 100 minutes.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

The version I've heard and prefer: "If you torture the numbers long enough, they will confess." Math being, well, The Reason I Am A History Major, the use of the verb torture seems apt.

Living in a household with someone who actually likes science I will tell her about a stat I heard and she will ask about the study and if it was peer reviewed, and the standard deviation, blah blah.

I just now say I heard a rumor. It is easier that way.

They've done studies, you know? 60% of the time, it works all the time.
    And that concludes staff’s presentation...

Sorry, I must have dozed off. Statistics and economics have that effect on me 89.55% of the time (+/- 4% margin of error).

    Truest True Stat

On average, only 3.1415% of regular Cyburbian users respond to a Maister poll. But I could be wrong.

Well you have been listening to the wrong people again.
I am sure I will not have computer access while on vacation because I don't own a laptop or pad
    and
as to work time, as stated above

    1. Choose 1950 in the "from" drop down list
    2. Click on "Go"

The baby boomers started working around 1964, the last of us around 1980.

    Check out the chart.

These same baby boomers started retiring recently.

A mirror image, do you suppose ?

I thought maybe this was going to show that one's chances of actually receiving Social Security benefits at age 65 decline 10% per year based on the year we started working...

I don't believe in probability, for what it's worth statistically. I believe it will either rain, or not rain. That's a 100% chance or a 0% chance, you just have to wait and see which it is. Probability is a lie. Don't buy in.

There is always a 50% chance of rain.

There is an 87.3% chance that today I'll hear a front counter customer say something really stupid.

There is a 9.17% chance I'll get a response to the email I'm about to send to landowner about the trail easement document I sent him to review (more than 3 weeks ago).
