Any other urban planners here work in conflict zones?

    Hello.

Since 2007 I've worked primarily in refugee camps, war zones and conflict cities. I did my MCP at the University of Cincinnati and also studied for a year at the American University of Cairo in Egypt. I've worked in refugee camps, with street gangs, and advised governments on issues ranging from green space to insurgency. These days I live in Afghanistan and also work in Somalia. I don't meet a lot of urban planners doing similar work, although I wish there were more planners involved in these issues. Anyone on this forum have similar experience? I also have a blog at http://thehumanitarianspace.com if anyone is interested.

    Cheers,

    Mitchell Sutika Sipus

    Interesting career path

I'm thinking of going back to get another Masters that would lead me in a similar direction - working overseas in conflict areas. I've been doing planning work on a local level in California for a number of years and am ready for another challenge.

Are you enjoying what you're doing?

Hello from New York! I do not have experience in working in conflict zones (unless you count city council meetings) but it sounds like interesting work. I've always been interested in working overseas but the timing has never been right. I look forward to checking out your blog.
