Hi Gang, Found this site while looking for information on others experience with Cell Towers, their regulation, location, construction and priveleges. Movimiento+Urbano is the name of our civic group who are struggling to acquire some common sense in the recent breaking of our government telelphone monopoly (where we only pay for the calls we make!) with the arrival of Claro and Movistar in compeition with the previous state monopoly. Needless to say, "competition" is a new word for an ex-government monopoly and they are having a hard time adjusting, especially in the area of Customer Service where previously, they could ignore your requests and begging for months, now that means that they may lose a customer! The ex-monopoly still retains 4,380,000 of its customers while Claro in one year has reached 150,000 and Movistar 160,000, all ex-government monopoly customers. Yes, thinking folks KNOW that the 2 fer 1 offers, financed 3G and 4G phones and "free" services will someday not be available and they will probably get together and raise ALL the service rates. Claro in Nicaragua has gone from the State momopoly at $6/month to now nearly $27 a month with Claro dominating... with a "generous" 2 hours of "free" calls per month, no roll-over, by the way. Our M+U organization is trying to find ways of limiting the installation of towers in schools, hospitals, parks and residential neighborhoods, but our Supreme Court recently ruled that the service providers can put up their towers ANYWHERE it is economically and technically required and the municipalities are required to give them licences without restricting WHERE the towers are located. Further, the "proximity" rule is only 10 feet from an adjacent property, no liability insurance required in case of a crash, the state must give 24 hour notice before measuring radiation from a tower, and altho the regulations say that the tower must be 60 feet high, there is no requirement where the antenna height must be... 10 feet from the ground in some cases! So I am here to read about others experiences with cell tower invasions and hopefully what you were able to accomplish to preserve possible health consequences, property values and possible tower crashes onto private property.
