The Edison & Ford Winter Estates - Ft. Myers FL

Let's start with the Henry Ford estate. His house.

    Ford's Cottage Shop.

    One Big Tree.

    Back to the Ford house.

Over to the Thomas Edison estate.

    Edison's office.

    Edison's caretakers quarters.

    Edison's pool....he had a diving board. I don't.

I grew up near Hank's house. What is amazing is looking at how modest these homes are. His home on the Detroit/Dearborn Border is big, but by no means a mind boggling size that you see some people build. One thing you can tell is that this guy really liked the arts and crafts style. His home here is a cross between a baronial english home and a bungalow. http://www.henryfordestate.org/

I am sure you had a great time visiting. RJ, do they have their own compound or are these set in a neighborhood?

The compound is surrounded by a very nice suburban neighborhood. Here's the Google look.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. My family vacationed for 20 years on nearby Sanibel Island and we visited Edison's home every year. My mom and sister weren't so thrilled with that but Dad and I loved it. I always learned something new on every trip. There are lightbulbs in the laboratory that have bamboo filaments (he did all kinds of stuff with bamboo as well as other plants) and they have been working since Edison was alive. An awesome place.
