    Snapshot 8/12/13

What was the last book you read (or are currently reading)?

    - "What the Dog Saw" by Malcolm Gladwell
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I'm picking up a few Carl Hiassen novels that I missed in his list of publications. Just finished Strip Tease by Carl Hiassen last night. Now reading Stormy Weather. I have a copy of his newest, Bad Monkey, as well that I'll start next.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

    - Herman Göring at the Nuremburg trials (thoughts on democracy)

I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law. I merely enforce it.

This one's on my list. The City of Pittsburgh named a bridge for David McCullough, and my newspaper reporter friend interviewed him about it. I told him that he's reached the top and can retire now.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce is the last book I read. I'm having trouble staying interested in any books right now.

Book is better than the movie and I thought the movie was good.

I'm currently working my way back through the Hunger Games trilogy.

I want to read that one!

I just finished A Conspiracy of Faith, by Jussi Adler-Olsen. It's a fast-moving Danish thriller... hard to put down!

Book 1-Let It Burn-by Steve Hamilton-part of the Alex McKnight series set in Michigan. Really on topic because it is set in Detroit. Both in the here and now and in the early 80's
Book 2-Micro-Michael Criichton's last book that he started but didn't finish
Book on the on deck circle-Serpant's Tooth by Craig Johnson-part of the Walt Longmire series
