We all now want to go to Loma Linda's and hoist in his memory.

Teh Bear first mentioned Loma Linda's back in Oct. 2004:

    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I was thinking the same thing. Somehow rename the Random Thoughts thread in his honor.

I've already moved on to the second stage of grief; anger. I'm pissed off that someone with such a passion for life gets it taken away.

Perhaps since he started the RTDNTOTO, each year we just call it "Bear's Thread" 2013... and so on.

    I agree.

I will be heading to the UP in 2 weeks. I will be sure to pay tribute to Bear once I get to the other side of "da bridge"

yeah, I always let him throw the ceremonial first pitch every Jan. 1st and kick off Random Thoughts. Seems like the thread should be named in his honor somehow....I don't right now it's too raw for me. We can figure the best title later.

I can't do this right now.

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. I will miss him. You cannot replace a personality, a life, like that. I'm sure that all of our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones now.

We'll all miss you, Bear. We'll all miss you forever.

First time I met bear was at Stanfest I when my then fiancée and I were waiting in a bar restaurant in Kalamazoo since Bear and Katie were going to be getting into town early. We sat down at the bar and a few moments later, another couple sat down just a few spaces over. We struck up a random conversation and then realized who each other was. My wife thought it was especially awesome that while he lived in Ohio, he was a U of M fan.

He also brought the physical drawings of DeNoc and all of us were in awe at how detailed and well thought out everything was. It was not just planning a place that did not exist, the physical land is actually real and he took real conditions into consideration with his designs. We had met up several more times at various Stanfests over the years.

So sorry for his family's loss, Bear's presence will be missed around here. Hope he is planning a big city up there...

I wonder what will happen to his DeNoc drawings, spreadsheets, etc. I sure hope they end up in the hands of someone who understands what it meant to not only him, but to us as well.

I was thinking that DeNoc would be a good name for the RTDNTOTO next year.

There aren't even words. BUN will be greatly missed.

And yes...we should somehow rename the Random Thoughts thread in honor of him.

And yes, we must find a way to preserve all of his De Noc stuff. Even though I never met BUN, I had input into it and it was fun to follow its growth and development.

Wow... I cannot believe all this.
Never met Bear, but he was one of my best friends here on the Board.
ND/Michigan week will never be the same.

My thoughts are with you. You are at peace now...
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

    I haven't posted in a while but...

news of Bear's passing has me pretty torn up. Bear was such a pillar of this great Cyburbia community... just an all-around insightful, funny, and fascinating man. Rest in peace, Bear, and may reflections on all of his awesome contributions over the years soften the grief.

I haven't been on here in quite a while, but when I read of BUN's passing on FB I wanted to stop over and give my condolences. So sad. His family is in my thoughts and prayers. Though I never met him, I knew he was a very special guy.

I tend to deal with grief through humor and had this thought while redlining a particularly crappy project this morning in a meeting: "No fucking way BUN would let this shit happen in de Noc."

BUN was a perfect example of a citizen planner. I'm really gonna miss my old friend and will be leaving a bottle of Rolling Rock for him at Loma Linda's next time I'm in Swanton.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."
