I went to bed last night praying for a miracle for Bear and woke up to the sad news this morning
I am now at work trying to explain to my collegues (while wiping away a few tears) how someone i never had the opportunity to meet has had a impact on mine, and everyones lifes here on cyburbia.
My sincere condolences to his family, especially his Katie.

As a surprise, a few years ago Bear called me on my birthday. We enjoyed a friendly and, of course, humorous conversation. A true gentleman.
We'll never get to play that one-on-one basketball game. I'll miss him and our good-natured ribbing of each other.

RIP Bear. Thank you so much for all your awesome posts and especially for the good advice while my wife was going through a bone marrow transplant much like you had done. Cyburbia will never be the same and hearing of his passing makes all my other problems right now seem so trivial.

This is just terrible news. I hoped to meet him when he traveled to Oregon to see his son, but that never happened. It is amazing how deeply one can be affected by losing someone you've never met. I will miss his wisdom and humor.

I'll never look at urinal cakes and screens the same and will appreciate logistics.
Another person who provided me a ray of joy when I was in a dark place that I wish I'd met in real life.

Multi-national grief for a man most of us never met; does that say something about Bear or what?
I can't be the only one who really didn't think this would happen.
I've never met Bear nor have had any interactions with him on the forums, yet seeing this outpouring of condolences and support for his family I also feel saddened. He must have been a really good man. also wanted to say to consider donating to the American Cancer Society and similar charitable organizations

A major loss for us. He will certainly be missed. We had a good connection - his love of northern Michigan/UP and I grewup in northern Michigan. He actually knew my small hometown well.
He is our heart and soul, and not even a planner, which makes it even better.

Stuff takes a while, even for the pro-active types who have a draft obit prepared months in advance. Unless it's a celeb, it can take a couple days to finish figuring out arrangements and details.
