    Urban regeneration vs. urban renewal

    Hello,

I would like to know whether urban regeneration & renewal are different subjects/policies in the world of urban planning ?
During my research for dissertation I came across urban renewal policies, although I have managed to do some literature
study I'm still quite confused between the two. Could anyone please help me out here, any kind of opinion/suggestion would
    be highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

From my understanding, the two are basically the same thing. Urban renewal gained a somewhat negative connotation due to the questionable motivations behind many projects in the past. The term regeneration doesn't carry the same baggage as renewal even though they're essentially the same thing.
