I bet he is regretting not taking the tender from Atlanta. Any idea where the compensation pick will be for the Braves?

Howver I am happy to see that he signed; he will be like a real life Willy Mays Hayes.

This has to be the 20th free agents Indians has signed.

I'm guessing that will net the Braves a sandwich pick between the first two rounds.

I think you are correct, Bubba, since Cleveland's 1st round this year is 'protected' (e.g., a pick in the top 10).

This off-season the Red Sox have touted the signing of "good clubhouse guys", as if somehow this overcomes a low batting average.

Really, it was a no lose propostion for the Cubs. If he had worked out, then they would have gotten a bargain. Since he didn't, nothing lost.

The Diamondbacks want a "gritty" clubhouse. I think both are recipes for a sub-80 win season.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this year. Thoughts of 2008 keep trying to creep into my head...

I'm worried about the closer situation. I don't know that I trust Smyly to get the job done and opening day in Minnesota wasn't helping his case.

I watched the D-backs opener last night. I don't think they are going to be that bad.

They have 38 games against the Giants and Dodgers, a questionable starting rotation and . They will be able to score runs but you can't outslug everyone. Given this it will be tough for them to win 80+ games. Of course the NL West has be notoriously difficult to predict the past several years.

Plus I think the Cardinals are in decline...but I have been saying that for the past few years and they always find a way to win.

    FYI

The Braves are on a pace to hit 486 home runs this year

Justin Upton is on a pace to hit 162 home runs himself this year.
