I wouldn't throw to Votto with open bases. Ever.

I can get over how different Kevin Youkilus (sp?) looks in a Yankmees uniform. It's more the lack of facial hair than the pinstripes. That shaving makes him look very different and younger)

I left work early today to watch the World Champion San Francisco Giants home opener vs. the Redbirds. The game is on the MLB Network. Are you watching Raf?

26 innings of starters throwing without an earned run... Zito looked great in the home opener. Remember folks who's on top...

You should...they are in the worst division in baseball...and that is even without the Astros. The Brewers, Cubs and Pirates could all lose 90+ games and St. Louis looks old and suspect. If the Reds don't win 100+ games this year then they underachieved.

And yet are most likely the most complete team in baseball. So yea they should get a few wins this year. You win when you are the best team in baseball.

St. Louis looks old and suspect? Sure, Beltran is 36 and the final year of a 2 year contract. But Oscar Taveras, one of the top prospects in baseball, is ready to step in if he falters. Otherwise, the only aged players on the team are Holliday, Molina and Westbrook, and they aren't really that old.

I would say every team is suspect in April, but old? Uh, no.

I think the Nationals are the best team in the NL from a roster standpoint, although the Braves might have something to say about that. Strassburg, Zimmerman, and Gonzalez is just a nasty 1-2-3 rotation.

As a Cubs fan, I'd agree. The Reds are the team from the NL Central this year.

The Cubs are more than a few years away. I think the have the right GM but the wrong ownership group. I have a soft spot for the Cubbies and want them end the 105 year old drought but not at the expense of my Bravos.

Only in a corrupt, soulless city like Miami does an $634 million stadium get built with taxpayer dollars for a team nobody gives a crap about. Why does the MLB allow this franchise to still exist?

Carolos Quentin holds the record for being hit the most times in the last two seasons. He leans in over the plate during his at-bats.

Zack Grienke throws a curve ball and hits CQ in the shoulder on a 3-2 pitch - he's not trying to plunk you on a 3-2 pitch dummy.

CQ charges the mound, bedlam ensues and the end result ZG has a broken collarbone.

Me thinks CQ will be getting plunked (on purpose now) a few more times.

I think Greinke's injury has to be taken out of the equation in terms of punishments levied. I blame Greinke anyways. Hasn't he learned the wrestling take down technique that most pitchers employ when they get charged? Instead he lowers his shoulder. What an idiot.

I'm well aware of Quentin's history, as him and Greinke used to go at it in the AL Central, and his previous blow-ups. I think the 4-8 games that's being discussed is appropriate. I'd probably go with 8 considering his reputation.

Or the throw your glove and backpedal while hoping your catcher gets there in time technique...

Or the Nolan Ryan headlock on Robin Ventura with multiple punches to the face. BTW, has it been confirmed that his collarbone broke on impact with CQ? Greinke got thrown down and piled on. I wouldn't have been surprised if one of his teammates did it accidentally.

A friend of mine has a theory that most of the Latin American players are all actually 2-3 years older that they say. There are several examples from Julio Jones, Miguel Tejada and little Leaguer Danny Amonte. I think there are instances but its not wide spread. What are your thoughts?

I think there are some, but definitely not most.

Most MLB teams have a much more extensive scouting system in place throughout Latin America than they used to, and I'm sure they're doing their background work much more intensely than 10 years ago.
