    Tweeting like a little bird

Many of us cyburbians use facebook, but i notice not many use twitter. In fact, other than cyburbia, I am only following one other cyburbian in the twitter tree. I find twitter to be a whole lot better than FB for my musings of the day, or wacky photos. I mean you have 140 characters to sum up some rant or whatever you have to say. So with that said, do you use twitter or is FB the only thing you can handle, minus the throbbing brain of cyburbia

I don't have a personal twitter account, but I do have one for my department. I use it for news, events, agendas, announcements, etc.

I have a little more than 100 followers (1 cyburbian that I know of...thanks Planderella!), but I try to focus my target on the news media followers I have...which has translated to articles in the local press and a trickle effect to their hundreds of followers.

I find it a pretty easy and simple means of getting the word out there, and am happy with the results 1 year into it.

I've had my Twitter account for two years or so and I used to be pretty anti-Twitter and rarely ever bothered with it. But lately I've really been getting into it. I find it especially useful to follow certain comedians or certain writers and commentators that I like. And I've found that typing in random"#" tags and seeing what others are saying about specific (yet random) topics is a good time waster.

My biggest complaint is that if you follow a few prolific tweeters, there are times that it can get pretty annoying scrolling through looking for stuff from other contributors. But maybe once I play around with it more and learn more about how to use it, that will get easier.

Love twitter, and if it weren't for family photos on facebook I would consider dropping facebook.

I've been on twitter for 4 years now. I have made some friendships 140 characters at a time, pissed off others, and gotten notoriety from some things I've put out there. I've met a few IRL as well, though I'm not much on tweetups.

I've received free books to review via twitter, gotten job leads, given job leads, and found great deals at local restaurants, kept up with local news as it's happening, and sent out updates of traffic or other closures, complained about restaurant service, and have been thanked for giving input at others. I think social media is the agglomeration of all of this. You can't just tweet, you can't just linkedin, you can't just yelp... you need to do it all to be effective and cross-walk each across each other.

I pretty much follow three or four groups of people. Planners/Architects/Designers, people, news stations, and businesses from Wilmington, North Carolina, NC gov't and NGOs, and NASCAR personalities.
I hate to say it but it's pretty much a prerequisite that you follow Richard Florida, because even if you don't follow him you will likely follow someone who re-tweets his updates all the time.

My twitter name is below - obviously.

Lists are your friends in this case. You can make multiple lists for friends or planners and follow them but then make sub lists to narrow that down.

I'm not sure who your'e talking about

I've recently started using twitter quite a bit. I link it to my FB account, so everything i tweet ends up on FB.

I really like twitter for getting my news and current events. However, most of my FB friends do not use twitter.

    get off my twitter-lawn

resurrecting this thread to say I am so sick of porn people following me - jokes aside, and there are plenty, but it's annoying because my account says nothing even remotely considered to be pornographic and is truly my work account - the only personal things I post are Pandora songs and the occasional kid picture

in this age of people getting canned for bad stuff on their computer it's really irritating

yes i do block them but they just keep coming - it's a little weird

I have a twitter and I tweet (?) once a month. I have a hard time getting into it. Part of it is becuase it's my real name and public so I am cautious with what I post. I have like 30 followers and I know maybe five. One cyburbia I think.

I use it on and off. Mostly I follow the local news guy to see what's happening at the meetings, but he quit so now I'm twitterless.

My wife will send out tweets about whatever she's watching or thinking. Some of her stuff gets favorited or retweeted and it gets her some odd followers. She has a few politicians because she call BS on a couple of them. She had some writers favorite some comment she mentioned while watching Tori & Dean or some show. She's even had a few read on TMZ and got a free shirt for it.

This is very much me. I will tweet or re-tweet something I find interesting but it's to like 7 followers so what's the point? I'm not going to be outrageous or opinionated or even terribly interesting since it's my real name and obviously me. That's too bad, I realize, but it's how it is. I'm not in a profession that would allow me to really express myself tweeting. Maybe I need an alternate "tweet-dentity".

I don't tweet much but follow many users. Political bloggers, media sources, a few comedians and such.

I use twitter much more than FB and have the accounts linked. When I post or re-tweet something on Twitter, it automatically posts it to FB. I follow a few other Cyburbians along with 200 or so other people. You can follow me at @Michael_J_Clark

I tweet more to follow others than to say anything. It's been a while since I've added anyone to follow - I think I'll look into that later today!

Edit - added a picture to my twitter account. It shows my crafty side.

Oh, and my account is not under my real or Cyburbian name.
See and I already get confused by real names and handles - I need a cast of characters index.

Mine is cmh_christine if anyone wants to come find me. I promise to try and be more interesting.

I'm following you now! I'm the yarn-bombed city street light pole pic that just started following you today. Since I haven't tweeted anything yet, there's no activity other than "now following". I need to get active!

That's the thing! I couldn't really set it up under ursus. It's just under my real name, so I don't tweet anything terribly fun. (jaredraiderhall) That'll find me.

I dont understand twitter. at all. I've tweeted twice since I've had the account (5 years or so?) and nothing happened.

I use it to check traffic.

To each their own, and that's a good use of it. I have met people on it with common interests. It's great for following conferences when you can't be there. I also enjoy the fast paced up to the minute news, if you can filter all the other crap out.
