    Secret Santa or Bear charity

    wait for the poll -

the question is should we do the traditional Secret Santa gift or do we do a mass collection for a Bear chairty - both ideas work for me but being a planner and all about process, here is the poll, wait for it now...

How about both. If money is an issue, cap the amount you can spend. The only problem I see is coordinating the Bear charity and the fact we are running out of daylight.

I agree, let's do both. We are not talking a great deal of money, so why not? I know, easy for me the highly paid City Manager to suggest...

    I like SS.

I will also donate $20 to a charity in BUN's honor.

    I agree with this thought.

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

LP, will you contact Katie? We should have a charitable org name, etc, so we can all make it clear our donations are in honor of BUN.

I don't think Bear would want us to stop a Cyburbia tradition on his account.

Did the obituary mention any where to send donations?

    American Cancer Society.

I like the idea of a tribute to his beloved U-M cancer center (and not because of any matriculation loyalties on my part).

I think it is great you all are doing this. Sorry I cannot afford to participate this year, but MW and I will give our annual charitable child's gift to a home for sick kids this year in BUN's honor.

I am concerned I don't have many particpants in Secret Santa so come on and play, you can go on the cheap - 10 bucks even!

[Dan, how do I send a message to all?]

Went looking, found this donation page. It includes this option:

UMCCC Patient and Family Support Services Program - 317598
    UMH Cancer Center Gifts

Gifts to this fund relieve many of the burdens cancer places on patients and their families. Services are provided by cancer specialists in psychology, social work, art therapy, nutrition, finance and countless other areas.

    And one page back:
    Memorial and tribute gifts
Memorial gifts may be made in memory of family members, friends and colleagues who have passed away. Tribute gifts may be made in honor of someone battling cancer, in gratitude to a loved one or in recognition of a birthday, wedding or anniversary.

To notify the person or family of your memorial or tribute gift, please provide the address information. The Cancer Center will send a note about your thoughtful support, without mention of the amount. To make a memorial or tribute gift, please use the single fund form, or contact our office at UMCCCAnnualGiving@umich.edu, or by calling 734-998-6893.

Think it would have a nice effect on Katie to receive a bunch of maize & blue-trimmed thank-you cards?

Typically a major non-profit will have a designated thanker who hand-writes cards. Now and then I get one.
