    Boats and ranches, baby!

If you had a boat, what would you name it?

If you had a ranch, what would you name it? What would your brand look like?

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

If we had a boat it would be named "RETIRED"
If If we had a ranch, our brand would be "C" (naturally)

If I had a boat, it would be Das Boot.

I have a country place that I refer to as The Ranch. My brand is F. It will be called the Old F Ranch.

I call my cabin Shady Pines Lodge. Is that close enough to having a named ranch?

I don't want a boat. The cabin is enough of a money pit.

We actually decided this long ago in the Family Ursus.

A boat we would name: "Oh, Turtle"

The ranch would be: "Magic by the Lake"

Both from ostensibly the greatest children's book ever written.

A former City Manager of mine (who had "voluntarily" resigned after I left the city) named his boat Severance.

    I always liked that one.

I've never had a boat big enough to put a name on. If I did I might name it Wanderer, after Sterling Hayden's boat and book.

BOAT is, of course, an acronym, so I was told by a former coworker whose boat was a money pit, which stands for Break Out Another Thousand.

The ranch would be called "Dun Ringill," from the old fort in Scotland immortalized in a Jethro Tull song. My brand would say "Mine."

I'm moving my ranch next to yours. Whenever one of your cattle wanders over I'll look to see whose it is and say "ah, it looks like it's one of Mine"

If I had a boat it would be "For Sale." I have no use for a boat.

If I had a ranch I don't think I would name it. Locals would refer to it as "the old [whoever I bought it from] spread" and wonder about the mysterious new owners. The brand would be -BQ. All (well, no, MOST) Cyburbians would be welcome.

The standard engineering company bulletin-board humor picture is the small dinghy named "Original Contract" hoisted on the rear of a large yacht named "Change Order".

During the time I was living in Las Cruces, there was a chain of gas stations named BAR-F. Most of the locals just thought of it as a ranch-ish name. When I pointed out what the name looked like to me, the response was usually "Yeah, I guess you could see it that way, if you have that kind of mind." Some people have no sense of humor.

I think Bar-K would make a great ranch name.

My boat would simply be "The Pontoon" like the recent CW song ... Living near both Chautauqua Lake and the Allegany Reservoir, one would be quite practical in the summer. It probably would require less $$$ than keeping a horse ... well two horses as equines need buddies.

I wouldn't have a ranch, but I would have a farm. Actually, I already own part of a farm. It's name is "the Farm".

Of course, if you're into Shakespeare, your ranch could be The Bar-D.

Nice try, but brands are registered in my neck of the woods. If you get caught with one of my animal units (what we call a bull, steer, cow or cow with calf, horse or sheep) sporting my brand, then you are a rustler. Google "Stuart's Stranglers" to see how we deal with rustlers in these here parts, pardner.
