    Texas Geography Fail

Local CBS affiliate in Dallas-Ft. Worth was doing a story about the newly elected Pope and gets it wrong. Really wrong.

"He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" Jeremiah 22:16

    Nice.

Maybe there is a village of Argentina somewhere in Columbia. Or they inhaled some that white powder smoke.

One out of three labels ain't too bad.

Must have been a weatherman filling in for the map/graphics guy.

Keep in mind these are Texans we're talking about. Frankly, we should be impressed that they even got the right continent!
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

Hey, don't go expecting me to defend our educational system in Texas!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Yeah, but doesn't everyone remember the Miss Teen South Carolina 2007?

    She's a looker, but wow...

The TX public school system is pathetic. I'm so glad I left the system before hitting high school.

"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

She used her scholarship winnings to get a geography degree. She's now teaching in Texas.

Decades ago, I had a step-son graduating from a public h.s. in FL who didn't have a clue where New England or "the midwest" was. He could find Alaska, Texas, and California on a map, and that was about it. Forget foreign geography. So, the Texas Fail? No shock there.
