On the fence too/ I can go but don't need the CMs.
For several reasons, my boss has decided not to attend. This means ZG is frantically searching for a hotel because we won't be staying at the conference hotel.
Too muchand too many
.
Now, to find a venue for the laefest....
Anybody know what kind of weather we can expect in mid-April?
I also checked the small bears schedule for the weekend. They are hosting the World Champions San Francisco Giants!!!![]()
As I mentioned, The World Champion San Francisco Giants are playing the little bears in Chicago on April 13 and 14 (we're planning to fly in on Friday, April 12). I'm getting tickets for one of those days--both are day games.
The question I post: which is the best day for the laefest? I'll get tickets for the other day. Let's decide this fast before all the good seats are gone.
EDIT: Crap!!! Can't buy game-day tickets on the little bears web site yet.

I'm not "frantically" searching for a hotel. I'm very methodical and very anal. Near the train? Free wi-fi? Walking distance to conference? Saves RJ's employers some $$? Free breakfast? I'm in the zone...![]()
I checked the budget, I'm out.
FYI the great rate offered by the APA is only $1 less than Priceline.
You haven't ignored the last of me!
As of several minutes ago, I'm registered for the conference. Flights purchased and a hotel room reserved (Homestead Suites on E. Grand Avenue--within walking distance of the conference center).
Sure is easy charging on the gov't credit card (except ZG 's flights, of course).
Not going. Our fair city has a policy against national conventions, seeing them as nothing more than boondoggles.
Nobody gives me any credit. Last year at FAPA, I found us a hotel way cheaper than the conference hotel, savings for the county. And a rental car less than half of the one his dickwad boss told him to use. Our hotel in Chicago will be $30 per night below the conference rate. Plus free wi-fi and breakfast.
Any restaurant recommendations for the area around the conference hotel? No chains, of course. ZG has done tons of research and we have a good idea where we're eating...but suggestions/recommendations are always welcome. (I want an authentic Chicago deep-dish pizza.)
Just got confirmation I was chosen with 3 others in the company to go!!! Now I just need to deconflict my work schedule in April to make sure I don't have too much to worry about while soaking up the planning goodness in Chi-town.
Chicago 2002 was the last one I got to go to - hopefully the opening reception is at the Solider Museum again, that was awesome.

I will not be attending unfortunately.
"Growth is inevitable and desirable, but destruction of community character is not. The question is not whether your part of the world is going to change. The question is how." -- Edward T. McMahon, The Conservation Fund
I'm not going, but I've seen a number of Groupon's for lodging in Chicago that seem like pretty good rates.
"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

You people and your fancy national conference.
I prefer the isolation of my 1960 office building where I secretly hope that I can be in control of a new round of urban renewal.
"I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany"
The program lists the opening reception by the host committee is at the Chicago History Museum for $40. That's $40 I can spend better elsewhere.
I am going, funding partly out of own pocket. But we have family and friends in Chitown and we'll take the sleeper train there so the kids will love it.
Up for laefest, depending on time and place.
