Wait is killing me as well. I applied to Columbia and the mdess real estate program at GSD. I didn't apply to MIT because I am really young and have only 2 years of experience. Looking back- im an idiot for not applying.

If you look in the past years, there is a whole thread in grad cafe on harvard mdess applicants. This year, there is not one post. So, you may be correct in that less people are applying because of the economy. I guess that can only be good for us. This last month has been hell in terms of waiting. Last year Mdess applicants got rejection emails on March 2nd and postal acceptances on the 5th and 6th. I am hoping its the same and so am expecting a decision next week. What are you guys doing to kill time?
Same boat here with the experience, if I stay at my position until May (Orientation for Columbia starts June 3) it will be just shy of two years experience; would be very shy of ideal in the eyes of MIT. I only applied to Columbia.

As for killing time? Reading bios on mega successful RE guys and looking online at apartments in nyc, lol.

Very strong stats, what field is your experience in? what area of RE would you like to work in following grad?

In the past few years, acceptances went out March 15 which is a Friday. Hopefully this year it's earlier - hopefully even by the end of next week

I worked in public accounting for a year, mostly corporate tax, after grad school. For the last 2 and a half years I've been running the finance department of an Internet textbook retailer. In the last year or so, we've gotten into real estate, first buying a new warehouse, and then buying houses for our seasonal employees to use. We've had success buying dirt cheap houses, fixing, and renting them so far. I feel like my limited RE experience will be a drawback, but hopefully my story is unique enough they can overlook that. I'd be coming back to work for my current boss in an expanded RE capacity, building and managing his portfolio.

Interesting area for a online textbook retailer to get involved in. Sounds like a really fun project, i'd love to do that on the side but Canadian RE prices held on through the recession and have been on a tear.

Absolutely. I just felt that you sounded very much like phear_me, sorry for the confussion. So I just wanted to avoid beginning an endless conversation about how some programs are vastly superior to others.

Last year Columbia MBA applications went down a whopping 19%. Now think that MSRED are much more niche programs, in a field particularly affected by the recession, and there are many new MSRED programs during the last years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduat...state_programs.

I don't understand why your GMAT would be outdated at MIT? Do you mean it is older than 5 years? Otherwise 740 is a great score for any program you might try to get it (whether it is an MSRED, MBA...)

    etc.

    Hi everyone!

I applied for this year as well. Just want to say thank you to Losantiville for having the presence of mind to start this thread. I have read, re-read and re-re-read these forums over and over again. So anxious about the decision.

    24 y/o, male
Currently finishing my master's in econ (3.6)
Bachelor's is also in econ (3.8, phi beta kappa)
    670 GMAT (39v, 47q)
4 Letters from profs. in urban econ (2), architecture and urban planning (also a CEO of a RED firm). one is a big name, the others are less so.

I've some real estate development experience in Asia on my resume but it was while I was studying abroad. Just an analyst/internship position. Currently in upstate NY but have lived in Hawai'i, Hong Kong and Seattle for significant periods of time. NY born but family is from and lives in Scotland. Fond of breakfast foods, hip hop, good conversation, long walks on the beach, etc. etc.

I have been eyeing up this program for about 3 years now and poured my heart and soul into those essays! Definitely shy on work experience though which i'm terrified may be a death blow.

Anyways, I'm obnoxiously anxious about the whole thing. I really hope we all get accepted--it would be badass to meet such interesting and talented people as yourselves. Best wishes and good luck to everyone.

Let's hope we hear sometime this week!!

Hmmm....that's a great question. I am keen on a good bowl of oatmeal with bananas and cinnamon. Though, it's hard to argue with the tried and true majesty of a good set of over-medium eggs.

Now I'll be spending all day pondering this...way to go, Queenducky hahaha

I as well hope we all get those acceptance emails this week. I wouldn't worry too much about the experience issue, I met several (three, if memory serves) students of the 2012 class that entered the program straight out of undergrad.

Does anyone know the procedure on acceptances? Do they have a second round after they've heard back from those originally accepted?

Also-if anyone has any ongoing communication with the admissions office/program administrators, i'd appreciate any updates!

Right on. That would be a blast.

Leafers are a pleasant surprise this year. How about them Sabres eh?

Sabes are an unpleasant surprise this year haha! I'm still really unhappy about firing Lindy. The problem with Buffalo is that it thinks with its heart and not with its head.

"Oh, we've lost a string of games in a row? Better fire our coach of 16 years." The new coach is about as exciting as a wet carrot.

That being said, given our last run of 7 points in 4 games, I'm hoping we can keep turning it around.

I would LOVE to see the Leafs make the playoffs and square up against the Canucks(one of my fav. teams). Hockey is a beautiful sport.

We have had a leadership shuffle as well, both coach and GM, but it has worked out in our favour. I'm not holding my breath on the leafs, they always have trouble finishing the season well. Hopefully with the shortened season they can push through and finally make the playoffs.

Leafs would have to make it pretty far to square off against the Canucks - but would be an awesome matchup.

Back to MsRED. I have put together a short chart on when acceptances were released in past years based on comments on this site and thegradcafe.com:

    2009: 3/13
    2010: 3/12
    2011: 3/4
    2012: 3/13
    2013: 3/??

It seems most people receive an email - in a few posts people indicated they came in the morning around 10:45 - advising you that a message has been posted on the online admission site. That message will advise you of your admission and scholarship status.

Most posting have been on Fridays except for 2012. Also, as I reported earlier in the thread, the MsRED office advised they were hoping to have acceptances released "earlier than past years" - so my guestimate would be Friday March 8th this year.

Also, for those interested, I believe orientation is set to start Monday June 3. They have pushed this back slightly from past years as it works far better for students requiring housing to commence their lease on June 1 as opposed to midway through May.

Funny that you did that, Chris. Comforts me to know that other people are just as anxious and doing such things. I made an excel table using everything I could find yesterday, admissions and rejections. My best guess was Friday as well.

Good luck, good luck, good luck!!

Congratulations! That is huge... really wishing that the scholarships were open to int'l students as well, even a $10k scholarship would make my life a hell of a lot easier.

Just in time for St Pats.

I am 99% sure I will be there in June. Didn't apply anywhere else - didn't have any interest outside of NYC.
