The American City: An Urban Odyssey to 11 US Cities

    http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2..._American_City

So I found this book at a bookstore browsing around. It's from 1981 and I had to have it. It looks at 11 different US cities and gives them taglines and has a section about each city with old photos and what people thought about that city.

The book is sooooooo politically incorrect and kind of talks smack on each city while saying a few nice things. I guess it's just interesting to me to see older books about cities from the vantage point of time and what was thought at the particular time. As well as old photos of the cities to see how they've changed.

Has anyone else come across/seen this book?

I'll post a few photos or something later once I'm home.

    I love this book!

My dad bought me this book back in the mid 1980's! I had just come back from a school trip to New York City and I was very interested in American cities. Growing up this was one of my favorite books! I loved looking at the pictures and reading it again and again.

I was over at my parents house for dinner earlier tonight and I found the book. I just did a google search on it and I saw your post....I think this book is great!

Like you said, it's interesting to see the cities as they were over 30 years ago.
