The good, the bad, and the ugly

the good: it was nice to be missed

the bad: I am slightly hungover from my Easter, which is really a bad thing to type but those poppa diablo drinks (the house drink) did me in and hurt my commute this afternoon

the ugly: a contract email shouting at me about delays with his CDBG project (hello, you are a brother in law of a board member for the recipient, I need to clean up this file before a Notice to Proceed)

The Good: Yay! The boss is out today!

The Bad: Dang, that means I gotta put my neck on the line and make the decisions today

The Ugly: Just checked the calendar and see there's a meeting I now have to attend today to listen to one of those 'save all defenseless things in the world from white corporate male aggression' type groups. There's an entire HOUR blocked out for that!

the good: yesterday's meetings are over, the new dining room light is almost up, and the painting of the living room should commence today.

the bad: still have two more meetings today, including a night meeting.

the ugly: the weather sucks and I need to put some power steering fluid in my car.

the good: the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom here right now, so pretty!

the bad: my boss is leaving tomorrow for the week which means more work for me

the ugly: I have a meeting with a notable area land use attorney and I'm not ready for it.

the good: the weather is finally turning for the better.
the bad: my allergies are really bad.
the ugly: my newest construction project is already over budget and the foundation isn't even complete.

the good: looks like I will be getting a new car in the near future

the bad: I couldn't get my current one to start up on more than one occasion. It'll work fine for weeks at a time and then suddenly it's dead. No juice. Then it will work fine again.

the ugly: it's a short in the electrical system and even the dealership can't trace its source. Time to sell.

the good: I got to sleep in a little bit this morning.

the bad: I was greeted at work with concerns from the Senior Planner.

the ugly: The Planner called out and harangued the ZBA members after a decision he did not agree with.

the good: I worked out a plan with the commissioners to take care of a long standing code violation

the bad: He hired a lawyer to fight it rather than just clean it up

the ugly: I'm going to have to watch this guy come in my office every couple days demanding things

The Good: Business has been better than ever since late last year.
The Bad: I have tons of work on my plate.
The Ugly: It all needs to be more or less done by the end of April, and I need to spend a week traveling before then.

The Bad: I ate wayyy too much
The Ugly: that 'wayyy too much' included two bean burritos

Beans don't make me musical. It's weird. People around me suffer much worse when I eat broccolli or spinach. Very strange.

the bad: my car is in the shop

the ugly: it needs a new rack & pinion and outer tie rod

Good: This Friday is my first paycheck in my new position. Significant raise.

Bad: Said job has resulted in three 12 hour days and only two days off over the last two weeks (working one day this weekend as well)

Ugly: The worry associated with being in charge is literally keeping me awake at night.

good: I staged a coup yesterday and was victorious

the bad: As a result I have to provide Home Buyer Education for up to 250 clients in 3 months, these are 8 hour classes.

the ugly: Once of my closings is delayed due to that state Department of Community Affairs taking its sweet time in processing a new home warranty so I can get the certificate of occupancy released from the city.

Not if you don't want it, you don't. Once a citizen hires a lawyer, I tell them to talk to the city's lawyer. In fact, if someone even mentions it on the phone, I give the the city attorney's number and hang up!

Same here. Once they lawyer up, I am out of the picture. They talk to the attorney at point and I'm in CYA mode. I've been down that road too many times not to.

Somewhat similar for me. It's kind of amusing in a sick way. All of our permit processing is done as full cost recovery, and we also bill for our county attorney's time. So when someone hires a lawyer instead of submitting a traffic study or whatnot, it usually ends up costing them so much more to hire an attorney and pay for all of our time negotiating with their attorney that yes they do need to prepare the study.

the good: I just won at the informal hearing
the bad: the defendant got caught in the middle of a lie
the ugly: she then proceeded to engage in an embarassing and shameful display of tears as a blatent attempt to influence the magistrate It partly worked because he reduced the freakin' fine!

the good: the term "shitbox" makes me giggle
the bad: I'm leaving work for happy hour RIGHT NOW! (good for me, bad for the stiffs still stuck here)
the ugly: I'm thinking by about 8 this evening things could be ugly (in a mostly good way)
