Well I have narrowed down my options to just two schools at this point, and figured why not use the advice of anonymous internet users to help guide my decision.
I am ignoring the cost of the two programs for this purpose, as the difference between the two are not that large all things considered. Rutgers is cheaper, but not by a huge margin.
I like both programs, they seem very similar. My current long term goal is to work in NYC for planning. I understand that could change, and everyone always tells you "you won't like/make it in NYC" but I want to give it a shot.
Rutgers has more resources than Hunter in the form of staff, computer labs, facilities, and student employment through their research institutes. This is because Rutgers is a larger and better funded program.
My biggest worry about Rutgers is the New Jersey focus. I really don't see myself wanting to live or work in New Jersey, and I worry that a degree from Rutgers would be too Jersey centric (and rightfully so).
Hunter should have the edge in that regard, if my goal is to work and live in NYC. I am considering transportation planning, but I am not married to it. I know that Rutgers has Hunter beat in that regard, but I don't see any of the Rutgers graduates working for MTA or NYCDOT. Again, because of the New Jersey connection?
I would love the advice of people who have considered Hunter and Rutgers, Current Hunter students, and Hunter alum. I know a lot about Rutgers from the open house, so want to hear more about Hunter. (and yes I have read all the old threads)
Thanks
