    Planning Masters in the UK

    Hello,

I am looking into doing an MSc in Planning in September 2013, and was wondering whether anybody had any advice on masters programs - whether it be about job prospects, universities or certain programs - in the UK?

Just for background information, I hope to work within the private sector, rather than in public authorities. Ideally, although I am unsure as to whether this job really exists, I would like to work within an architecture and urban design firm but as planner/designer.

    Thank you!

Hi, yes jobs like that do exist. If you come from a design background you could probably move into this hybrid type of role with a Master's in Planning.

As for the UK there are lots of advantages to studying here, but also be careful about which programme you choose. If you want to work as a true planner in the UK you will need to study at a RTPI accredited university. Keep this in mind. However, if you're interested in working in the private sector only, you may not need this. Programmes in the UK are somewhat specialised, so really narrow what you want to gain from it and help that guide your decision. Also, talk with the directors and if possible try to meet with them in person. That really helped me.

Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.
