    Teh 2013 Tropical Weather Thread

The first Tropical Storm of the 2013 season, Andrea, has formed. It's moving fast and will only bring some (possibly) heavy rain to us as she is travels to our east. Only a flash flood watch in our area.

Supposed to go right over my county, we are right in the middle of the path. Granted, I'm up in NC, but still...

We ended up on the dry side of Andrea...only experienced light rains and breezes. Only a few clouds at this hour.

It's been a wet couple of days here in NC...flash flood watch and flood advisory. I was supposed to be moving today. It has been post-poned.

Article: Forecast: Two hurricane landfalls for U.S. this season
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/weathe...ction/2609169/

This is the first forecast that predicts the specific number of hurricane landfalls the nation should see; up until now, preseason hurricane predictions have traditionally been only for the number of hurricanes that are expected to form.

The HUGO model system will provide specific data on likely storm surge and inundation as a hurricane approaches, including time, location and likely water depth along the coastline. This should assist emergency management officials in their logistical planning in the event of evacuations, according to Coastal Carolina.

This year there seems to be more of an emphasis on ethnic diversity in hurricane-naming.

    Karen

We are under a tropical storm warning but still in the cone of uncertainty. Earlier this afternoon, we were under a hurricane warning. Our EOC is activated to level 2.

ZG was busy today making preparations.

EDIT: I'm having a dangerous building torn down tomorrow. They should finish the clean-up by Saturday morning. I wanted two more demolished but they were too big to complete the job in the time available.

Today included dog to day care, grocery store, bank for cash, Wal-Mart, library, Sam's Club, top off the gas tank, another trip to grocery store for a few things, pick dog up at day care. I'm exhausted. I hate getting ready for storms. Tomorrow, depending on the storm track, deciding what, if anything, I have to take down/bring inside. In the meantime, we have enough food for weeks. I am so anal about this.

Sunday is not looking good. At this hour, at least one storm track takes the eye of Karen over the top of us. That might be a good thing because all the nasty weather is on her east side. We'll know more after tomorrow morning's update. And another good thing; I'll probably get Monday off.

I hope Jim Cantore doesn't pay a visit to my community.

    Jim's in Pensacola Beach.

I will add that we have a reservation there for our anniversary in two weeks. At a beachfront hotel. Shouldn't be any damage from this storm.

I hope nothing too bad happens. The Senate will not approve funding for FEMA.
Me: "I am sorry, but the Ordinance and the Master Plan does not permit that at this time. But if you would like to request amendments, this 355 page document outlines the procedure. You will need…. (CLIPPED TO ACCOMMODATE LIMIT) …. It will likely take 36 to 48 months to get final approvals. Then you can submit for a building permit and break ground Would you like to get started with the process?

Applicant: "Geeze, a simple No you can't do that would have worked"

Local FEMA folks are here and on the job.

The good news at this hour is Karen is not looking good and on life-support.

I better check with my EOC.
