Hi all,
Long time since I've been around! I've been doing regional scale planning with a focus on scenario planning/GIS for the last few years, and am thinking about trying to move more into bike/ped planning. I have a design background, so I'm comfortable with physical planning/design work, but haven't done any bike/ped planning before. I'm one of those car-lite folks who has a typical mode split of 60/30/10 bike/walk/drive, so I have a good understanding of the user-perspective of what makes bike/ped networks and facilities work well. I also spent some time in the netherlands a while back and have spent a good bit of time reading up on the dutch approach to bike/ped issues.
I suppose my basic question is: do you have any suggestions for making a career switch like this? Is bike/ped planning difficult to break into without civil engineering or explicit bike/ped experience?
EDIT: forgot I posted a similar question years ago when I was first starting out in planning. Mods - go ahead and delete this one unless you see reason to leave it up. sorry about that!
