New and already in need of assistance

    Hello all,

I spent years in construction litigation and ended up giving in to my love of history and historic renovations.
Now restoring a fabulous old mansion and looking into investing in a few others which have been neglected over the years.
So having spent some time in property management, repair and restoration, I've expanded into real estate sales as well.

Having to deal with a local city in a battle over the sidewalk. Is there anyone who can tell me where I can find the official definition
for any of these terms which I understand are basically one and the same: Access walk / courtesy walk / carriage walk?

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

First place I would check is in the city zoning code under definitions. Usually the very front or back part of the code. If it's specifically defined in the code, that's the definition. If it's not there look for a couple things.
    1. Does the code tell you to look somewhere for definitions, like using a specific dictionary.
    2. Is it defined somewhere else in the municipal code, you can usually just search for the term
    3. When in doubt what does the dictionary say.

To me they sound like the same thing.

Yes, they are one and the same.

    Thanks dvdneal,

I have checked the local codes - no mention of them anywhere.
Originally, known as a carriage walk, now some areas call it an access walk while others call it a courtesy walk.
Did find reference in codes for other cities/states.

Not finding any of the names in any dictionary either.
Basically, it's "the walk generally perpendicular to the street and is used to go from the street to a commercial building or residential house".

Just trying to find an authority I can use to cite, such as a glossary of traffic engineering terms, etc.
