    Downtown parking requirements

I was wondering if anyone had a list of parking requirements for urban areas? In my city we are working on creating a form based code in the downtown and we want to reduce the # of parking spaces per use type for downtown uses as opposed to the parking requirements in the rest of the City which is very suburban in character.

I am also interested in finding information regarding the dimensional layout requirements for urban areas--i.e. width of drive aisle, dimension of parking spaces etc. I want to allow for the design of more compact parking areas downtown due to the smaller lot sizes and general scarcity of space in urban areas.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I've worked in smaller towns or suburbs with downtowns in New England and we didn't have downtown parking requirements if you were within 300' of a public parking lot

I have also seen allowances for shared parking (as in a bank and a restuarant, different peaks), reduction in parking in areas where there is mass transit within 600 feet, reduction for busiensses with ride sharing programs, reduction for bicycle parking provisions and showers for employees, public/private parking sharing

So, there's a lot you can do to get away from the suburbanized 1 for every employee on the largest shift kind of thing

    Maximum Parking Requirements

I'd love to see some maximum parking requirements rather than minimums - especially in urban areas with transit and public parking available. Anyone have any good examples along that line of thinking?
At times like this, you have to ask yourself, "WWJDD?"
