Article: Florida Tea Partiers: urban planners are using mind control, tyranny in sustainable develop

    http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pu...le_seven50.php

Duany's May 17th remarks have become a Tea Party talking point. Brilliant and imperious, the planner expressed his frustration with tax burdens and regulatory red tape (which conservatives should love) but spoke incautiously, using the phrase "ruthless capitalism" and referring to the supposed efficiencies of fascism. Of Seven50, he said, at one point, "You should just trust us and pass it."

I don't know what to make of this ?
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

I don't care. He is not a planner. He is an architect masquerading as a planner.

I just searched "Delphi technique brainwash". These conspiracy theories are scary stuff. It would be fun to write into an "authority" section of a plan or code: By the state statutes and Agenda 21.

And a demagogue as well. Duany's problem is that he never spent time in the trenches and figured out what actually works and what doesn't Have him spend 10 years in a city, township, county or regional planning department, he's a different person and planner. Back on on topic, I'm curious what RJ and ZG have to say about this. Sounds like more black helicopter nuttery.

I'm going with Dave Barry and Carl Hiaasen. Florida is nuts, but SE FL is the epicenter of crazy. They make the rest of the state look almost normal.

I have no respect for Duany; but then again, most elected officials in SE FL are probably the "Well, when I was back in New Jersey" types. Don't even get me started on the Tea Partiers...

It's funny, the Tea Party nuts seem to think every public participation is a Delphi Technique. None of them take the time to understand how the different techniques work.

On another note, I met Duany once in college, he's an arrogant prick who thinks his way is the only way and all the rest of us are inferior and holding up his master plan.
Need a planner? Why not Dvd?

    Yeah.....

Duany and the hordes of STARCHITECTS parade around with their Prima Donna Planning efforts and don't give one hoot about public input because they see other people as meat with eyes and very little taste.

Now, having gotten that out of my system, more often than not, their public buildings tend to turn out special and tend to end up as successful places people want to see and be at. If we left every public building (library, art museum...) up to the "public" they would be built with cardboard and look like a brick S#!t house everywhere between San Francisco and New York City.

The problem is, STARCHITECTS should stick to building design because clearly they can't cope with the reality of the general public.

I have to agree with you there...

Oh, so planners are using mind control techniques now?!?!

These are scary times for planners with all this lunacy circulating.

That's a pretty common accusation against us here. Tyranny, mind control and UN controlled socialism. And it's not just a few nuts that believe this.
