Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Didn't the State of New York do something similar -- override the City of New York's zoning to permit the Atlantic Yards redevelopment.

Lots of discussion on the NC planning Listserv about this.
From my understanding (Aberdeen is in the next county over from me), the town and county got into a nasty dispute over the land. Not sure of the details exactly but there is a lot more to this story.
Yes, didn't you know the NC General Assembly is the State's Local Planning Department!

My first thought is fine, then that piece of land should be deannexed from the town and they can provide their own services. If the state wants to get into zoning then they should provide service. Or in the case of my area (insert redneck voice), the town should have just bought the land if they didn't like it
Need a planner? Why not Dvd?
This looks on its face like what politicians do best: line the pockets of their friends.
That's correct.

Snippet:The Atlantic Yards issue is so huge that it could be split into a separate thread, (if anybody cared to discuss it further)....Atlantic Yards was not actually rezoned [by NYC}. It was a state approval process, which included override of zoning. That's hinted at but not quite clarified in the WNYC report, which states, "Normally, [Council Member Letitia] James would have played a starring role in negotiating with the developer... But the Bloomberg administration arranged for a state agency to review the project."
