Pressure on infrastructure due to densification along transit corridors?

    Well,
Supposing a transit corridor gives rise to major densification along the same, putting pressure on water supply and sewerage networks as well as creating problems in managment of solid waste, how does one tackle such a situation?
All this assuming my projected population arrives well in advance of the design period, say 10 years in advance. The infrastructure provided is already running at its' max.
Are there any countries/places where such a situation has been seen and tackled?

This seems fairly obvious to me.

Put in bigger sewers, water, and upgrade other utilities?

Really its no different than if you are going to start developing and area that was once a farm field. You need to have the infrastructure or you will have major issues. To only plan for an increase in transit without planning for an increase in poop is foolish.
