Maine Development Foundation - Senior Program Director

The Maine Development Foundation is seeking a new Senior Program Director for the Maine Downtown Center. The Maine Downtown Center is an MDF core program supporting its objective of “Strengthening Maine’s Communities.” This position has a leadership role on the MDF team and is responsible to the President/CEO.
The primary responsibility of this position is to direct and manage the design and execution of the Maine Downtown Center and to serve as Maine’s State Coordinator to the National Main Street Center.

Duties include:

Serving as director and spokesperson of the Maine Downtown Center’s programs including Maine Street Maine, the Maine Downtown Network, Healthy Maine Streets and Green Downtowns.
Serving as the State Coordinator to the National Main Street Center, providing reinvestment statistics, annual reports and accreditation scoring of Main Street Maine communities, attending National Main Street Center conferences and participating in national and regional conference calls and projects
Providing technical assistance and training to communities
Promoting downtown revitalization across the state through public speaking engagements, research, written publications and public relations/marketing
Working with the MDC Advisory Council and Senior Advisors to identify new communities, develop long-term planning and funding sources for the program
Identifying, securing and managing grants and contracts including issuing RFP’s and selecting contractors based on grant requirements and community needs
Organizing the annual Downtown Conference, the Downtown Institute sessions, Downtown Day at the Statehouse and other seminars and trainings
Maintaining and expanding MDC’s public presence via the web, press and media and social media
Supporting other MDF programs, projects and initiatives as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience with the National Main Street program
Demonstrated ability to serve effectively as state coordinator for a national program
Successful program and project management experience
Demonstrated grant writing, grant management and fundraising experience
Highly effective interpersonal, team building/teamworking and communications skills
Excellent public speaking, computer, research and writing skills
Regular statewide travel with personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed) company and rental vehicles
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience as a designated Main Street community manager; graduate degree preferred
5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in public policy, community planning, community/economic development, historic preservation, nonprofit management or business
